Considering a Springfield 1911a1 GI

Any suggestions or recommendations of the above mentioned pistol. I think it's time to get a 1911. I want the Kimber custom covert 2 with digital grips but I have been told it's not available in ca. After that I guess an affordable ww2 knock off would be cool to have. TIA

Do it. Springfield GIs are nice 1911's. On a side note, the GI is the basic model for Springfield, if you want something with more features, search around Springfield more. Lots of great stuff.

There's a Para Ordnance GI on sale in the Sales Forum for a good price. Just Like the SA GI but the ejection port is lowered and flared.

I made a thread about the GI I have just got and how much I love it! Its not the premo model but it shoots awesome and I have no complaints. I am going to put a little money in mine to change a few things but nothing major.

Why don't you get the SA Mil-Spec instead of the 45 GI?

The reason I bring it up is because both guns are practically the same thing, though the Mil-Spec has better sights AND it comes with a lowered/flared ejection port. This "update
on the port ensure for a more positive extraction. It also allows for live cartridges to be more easily extracted if you had to unload.

I have the GI model. The gun works well, but the sights aren't very useful. They're super tiny. I prefer the modern sights on my other 1911s.

they make a good 1911, I have the Springfield Loaded and love it.

I used to have a SA GI model. Had frequent (1+ per mag) problems with it out of the box, usually stovepipe FTEs. Tried several different mag/ammo combos, all FMJ ammo. Eventually traded it away. And the sights suck.

Okay, sights is subjective but posts like that ^ scares me away from buying a 1911. I guess I have to buy my own to determine if I like 1911s or not!
