I have four 92 Beretta's, but this will be my first with the rail and I am totally stoked.
I felt the same as you, I had 3 92's and bought the 90-Two to get a rail. Then realized that the laser I bought wouldn't fit/stay on the rail properly. So sometimes you get what you need...

I have nothing against M9A1's, but the 'stock' 92FS upper is kinda disconcerting...

Back to OP: My first handgun was new, but looking back, easily could have been used...

As mentioned, most folks shoot a coupla hundred ( maybe a thousand ) rounds down the pipe. Considering most 'wondernines' willl go 100K rounds without major rework, I wouldn't sweat a used gun. At all. But when buying, bring a friend who has some kind of experience..

If it was in good shape, a good deal, and something I was looking for
      This for me, too.

I used to be a new guns only guy. But now I think I buy equally new/used.

The upside of used, assuming you do a proper inspection and pay an appropriate price, is that first scratch/ding is already on it so if you make a mark on it it's no big deal. 'What's another slice off a cut loaf'? Also, assuming it's in good shape it's likely already broken in so the action may be nice and smooth. Last year I bought a used Colt Trooper MkIII. It's got a good amount of finish wear but the action is smooth as butter, it's accurate and still in great shape. Actually it's now one of my favorites.

Of course the upside of new is it's your baby from day one. You know EXACTLY what's gone on with it from day one of its life.

For my first, I may be inclined to go new. After that gloves are off.

Good luck on whatever you choose and BE SAFE!!!

most of the guns i purchase are used guns. my Sigs are all older w german P series handguns; can't buy those "new." i really have minimal interest (for purchase) in the newer Sig lineup; just personal preference.

i usually prefer a gun in it's original caliber (s) and overall configuration.

i have in the past year... picked up a few new guns; OD G19 and G26. last year i bought a new Remington 870P, but also purchased an older 1965 pristine condition 870 Wingmaster; the Wingmaster is the beauty in my mind's eye.

i currently have a w german (1983) Sig Sauer P220-E .45 ACP on layaway at Alamo; that one has been on my wish list for a long time.

Ok, being your first handgun, I'll offer you this advise, first see if you can find a holster that you like for the railed version. You'll need a holster to carry that gun around.

Now, to answer your used/new question. Generally, I've found used guns shoot as well as new guns and can save you the sales tax as well if you buy it from an individual. If buying from a store, then the savings don't justify used (this is because decent quality guns lasts a long time and they don't drop in value) so I'd buy new there. So, if you can find an individual selling the used gun that you want, then it is the best way to save money; otherwise, buying new in a store.

I bought a used 96 for my first one and have not had any problems with it with more than 3000 rounds shot by myself. They are excellent guns. I got mine as a police turn in for $300 and it showed holster wear but functioned just as well as any of the new 96s that I have shot. Like others have said if you are looking for a rail on your gun for a light you might want to look at a new one though>

As mentioned above, most folks barely use their guns and most are still in the original box. No sales tax, minimal DROS fee if PPT (person to person transfer).

Funny - handguns (well known, brand name) - if not abused, keep their value. Why do you think the classifieds here are so popular??

But - find a buddy to help you.. I've only had 1 marginal purchase (PPT) where I bought something that was in worse shape than I thought... But that was my fault, and didn't lose any money on the deal...

                Buying guns is so fun..

Buy a NEW and USED and report back!! haha

Since its your first I would recommend going new, but if its a killer deal then I would by no means pass it up. I have no problem buying used.

New or used? Funny. All of my revolvers were bought used and all but one of my bottom feeders were bought new.

Depends on the deal & what you want. Used is a good way to get off roster guns, too.
