Range report, Beretta 92FS

Finally had a chance to take my wife's new 92FS down to OC Indoor this afternoon.

Very nice.

It was easily holding 2" groups at 10 yards if I concentrated, and was running 2-3 with a couple of 4's and a flyer every now and then with a "relaxed" semi-rapid fire.

Put 200 rounds through her before switching to the 1911.

The Beretta 92FS is a very accurate service pistol. Felt recoil is somewhat "soft" compared to other wonder nine service pistols.

Good to hear. I pick my 92FS up in a couple of weeks. (Got hit by the 10 day wait AND the 30 day registration limit...) Can't wait to range test it at Firing Line.

Good gun. I'll probably end up getting a PX4 before it but I'd love to have the 92 or 96 .40 version before then.

The 92fs is a lot of fun and there are a few cheap mods that make it even better.

I dont think people bash berretta, its just the 92f is a pretty large gun for shooting the comparatively small 9 mm luger.

The Beretta being large is one of its appeals, very little recoil.

Practice with it, I can make 4" groups at 25 yards in both DA and SA all with stock parts. Might get a Barsto barrel sometime in the future to tighten those groups up even more.

Didn't know a Barstow barrel was available for the 92FS. I know that they make a 1911 45 very accurate.

Not my favorite design, per se--

BUT a Beretta was the first pistol that I ever shot, so it has a special place in my heart just for that, and I didn't have to deal with 10 round mags either that time. It was great.


And the Beretta, IMO, is still one of the sharpest looking pistols out there. I think they have wonderful lines.


I could not have asked for two better guns to shoot for my first time. (It wasn't until later that I "discovered" the magic behind a good SIG.)

I can tell you... I love my 96G Elite. It has the Brigadier slide, and the extra weight just eats up the recoil. .40s&w from this is easier on the recoil than 9mm in a lighter gun. And since it has dovetailed sights, I can swap in some nightsights later when my budget opens up a bit.

Barsto makes barrels for everyone almost. They also have a number of extended and ported options; and for accuracy, they'll fit a barrel to your slide (for a fee).
