Cool, thanks man.
I might go with the Gen 2.
I'm just wondering what happens if my BCG fails and I need to replace it.
Which is why I was looking at the Gen 1 (uses standard BCG). I can easily replace that spring in the Gen 1 if something goes wrong, but idk if I can just chop a normal BCG to fit?Comment

The PCF lower has a generic buffer set up from Model 1 Sales.http://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm...ategory_id=429Wow those are all awesome.
I see the Gen 1 Gunsmoke Enterprises buffer on the "build" on the right.
Which buffer tube make/models do you have on the Carbon 15 and the PCF?
That buffer on the Carbon is barely longer than the Gunsmoke buffer, I wonder if you can buy that buffer and use it on any AR pistol?
The one think I don't like about the GSE buffer is that I have to remove it to break open the receivers.
The Bushmaster is 100% stock.Comment

Just weighed mine....bear in mind I used the bathroom scale...but it comes out to just a tad over 3lbs. And I've never worn out or broke a bcg and frankly don't know anyone who has...not to say it doesn't happen..but I'm not going to worry about it. Worst case I can buy another from Young Manufacturing.

Yeah, I agree...it would be nicer if you could just crack it open like normal...although honestly it only takes an extra 30 seconds to unscrew the endcap and pull out the spring. All in all, a fair trade off tho in my opinion as I really wasn't wanting the length of the others

Basically Gunsmoke enterprises (GSE) came up with the mod for the really short buffer tube. Their Gen 1 uses a regular BCG with a plug that goes in the end that replaces the buffer...but word is that reliability was iffy...then they came out with gen 2 that uses a modified BCG that does away with the buffer altogether.
Most AR pistols use a 7" tube such as Rock river sells, etc.Comment

All of mine use the standard BCG. I can't think of one off hand that doesn't. The only difference is the spring and buffer inside the shorter tubes.
The one i have linked in my post above (the second photo) is just like a regular carbine. The bolt recoils back into the buffer tube. One the GSE GenI, the spring has a little insert that actually goes inside the rear of the bolt carrier. That's why I have to take my buffer off to clean it.
They make quite a few standard pistol buffer sets that contain everything inside the buffer tube just like a normal AR15.Comment

No it's not ok to have a pistol upper without the lower. I think its called constructive posession. Thats what I've been reading on the forum anywaysComment

Personally I think the Marks Armory deal is even better as it includes the buffer set up as well and a rail. Also cause it's Young Manufacturing parts vrs Del Ton.

Yes, you can own a short barreled upper without a pistol lower so long as you do not also own an AR lower to which you can attach that upper.
Example: You own are a few firearms (Kimber 1911, Remington 700 & a Mossberg 500). Since you can not attach an AR short barreled upper to any of those, you can own an AR short barreled upper
If you already do own an AR rifle, owning a short barreled upper will constitute construction of an AW, and you would be charged with a felony.MagPul MPLA
