I can't figure out if these short GSE buffers work on normal AR BCG without their special bolt?

you need their bcg. its machined so the buffer spring can ride on it. that is if youre talking about their gen 2 shorty buffer tube kit.

Nice! Thanks for clearing that up. I will be using the normal one.
I'm probably buying this upper without the BCG ($85 cheaper) so I can just get a nice BCG in there like a BCM or Spikes.

Why not pick up one of the uppers from JSE and upgrade to the HC BCG and call it a day? And use the RRA pistol buffer tube and forget about the weird proprietary stuff.

Basically, that would be plus $35. The normal one they include is $85.
So that's $120 for a DPMS Chrome BCG (the cheapest chrome one).

I can get a BCM for $140. I've read about DPMS having issues, never heard that with a BCM (even after tens of thousands of rounds).
For $20 I'll splurge on a nice BCG.

Oh, and the GSE buffer tube is only 3-4" long, so it barely sticks out. It's cool.
You don't have to get a proprietary bolt with the Gen 1.

My only problem is wait for the stainless steel or get the black barrel.

The fact that includes the chrome BCG and the short buffer tube make that a pretty good deal too.

Did you get the stainless barrel or the normal one?

Is there really a difference for $30? I will wait until they're back in stock it it's worth it. You can only see like one inch of it, but still haha.
