While I want the Apex Duty Kit and work done on my 45FS, I'd also like to bring up that Bowie Tactical offers some different options for a trigger job, with reviews being positive. That said, I'm saving to send mine to Apex to become even better.

I'm on Apex's site, and the DCAEK kit includes:
            - hard sear
            - USB
            - increase spring rates for sear and trigger return

What kind of trigger characteristics can i expect is i installed only the hard sear and USB? Based off of my research, I will have improved over travel, sear reset and reduced trigger pull (4.5lb ish) with the hard sear, and a smoother take up with the USB. Is that right? With the increased rate springs, I am gaining a heavier trigger pull for duty/carry?

Lastly, the USB page says it's made to work in conjuction with the hard sear. What happens if I don't install the USB?

Yes you will end up with a ~4-4.5 pound trigger, w/o the USB you will not have the smooth takeup. Get both if not all 3 IMO.
