    RIA 38 Super

I had finally picked up my 38 super on Thursday. The next day I field stripped it cleaned it up and got it ready to go. On Saturday I hit the range and it started shooting great. After about 30 or so rounds bam I get 2 FTE! I finished that box and on to my next one. On the next 20 rounds I had fired off I get 3 more FTE.

Pretty bummed about those 5 FTE I got out off 100 rounds on that session. I have to say though the RIA was really accurate and that was my first time shooting a 38 super. Anyhow I got a question for my fellow calgunners. I remembered today that when I was cleaning my gun for the first time. I had forgotten to run a patch through the barrel. Could that have coused the 5 FTE.

Oh and I was using the original magazine that came with the RIA and 2 Mec-Gar magazines. 

38 Super is a little different, it's a semi-rimed cartridge originally designed to head space on the case rim but now uses case mouth for that purpose. Yes barrel, chamber, and extractor, must be clean, lock-up points and rails must be lubricated. Information below on .38 Super and 1911 maintenance and break in. Good luck they are fun to shoot.

http://www.38super.net/ Lots of information on .38 Super

    http://www.sightm1911.com/Care/1911_Maintain.htm 1911 maintenance information

I have had no problems with my colt, mec-gar or metal-form (springfield) magazines. They should be cleaned too.

took my Springfield 38super to range 2 weeks ago no ftf or fte with PMC and Aguila FMJ
    ammo 200 rds. fired.

Just a thought. I read about another CGer that had bought this pistol and then he went out and bought a 9mm barrel and some 9mm magazines to be able to put some low cost ammo through his new gun.
      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Mine shoots fine. As for the 9mm conversion, google Sarco and give them a call. It's 50 dollars for the barrel. I'm actual ordering one myself.

I never even shot my .38 super I just converted it to 9mm and its a wonderful gun. You might want to go that route. (much much cheaper) and you know it can handle +p+ loads. lol

It probably just needed to be lubricated and broken in. Shoot another 200 rounds through it and see what happens.

                    38 super

When i got both my RIA 38 supers the first round, round one, failed to feed. i was very mad and found on line that the colt mags the guns come with is the cause of this. i then purchased 2 new metalfold mags. the guns work great with these mags. thats why im selling my colt mags.

Im wondering, why buy a .38 super gun and change the barrel to 9mm, what's the point. am I missing something here? wouldn't it be better just to get a 9mm.

Why not just buy a Browning HP then. Used they go for around 500ish and are built on the 1911 frame.

@InGrAM I do plan to buy a 9mm barrel and some magazines. You have to give the 38 Super round a try man. I plan another range trip this weekend and hopefully I will post up some pictures. 
