I'm scared to leave my Glock loaded

Fools don't fit in the boots that I tread in. -
Are you this afraid when you put your car in park? When you leave your wife/kids/animals alone? Or how about when you have a beer?
Speaking of 1911's and Beretta 92's, will you feel safe with the chamber loaded and safety on? If so, why? Is it that mechanical device that gives you a warm feeling in your tummy knowing you can fondle the trigger and the gun won't shoot?
What's wrong is your inability to trust in something you cannot control.
Keep your G-Damm finger off the trigger and all will be well.
Might I suggest you review the cooper rules
1- Guns are loaded at all times and we treat them as such at all times
2- Never point your gun at ANYTHING you are not willing to DESTROY3- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot (This is the rule you want to remember)
4- Know your target and what's behind itIf you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

I get uneasy too carrying a loaded handgun if I am not planning on shooting it. Obviously at a range it is no issue. Another Calgunner let me carry openly on his property in a holster and that wasn't bad because I trusted him and we weren't out in public. But even in my home I feel a tad bit uncomfortable keeping my handgun loaded (unless it is in one of my Safariland holsters, no other holster though), though not so with my rifles. When I was vacationing in Alaska, it definetly felt strange carrying a concealed, loaded handgun. It almost felt like I was committing a crime... damn California and their anti-gun behavior modification laws!!!Comment

If you are uncomfortable carrying a loaded gun, then do everyone a favor and DON'T DO IT!!!
Guns do not spontaneously "go off"- something has to make them do so. If you cant handle a gun safely, DON'T DO IT!!!Comment

I went through the same thing with my bedside gun.. the thought kept going through my head of "What if one night I have a bad dream and grab for the gun in my sleep" and similar things. For this reason I keep mags hot but chambers empty."Everybody is a genius. I am not sure of the guns intended purpose, wether its ccw, duty carry, or only live in the night stand drawer. I will also suggest getting some snap. I had the same concern when I bought my first glock. If it's for ccw, put a snap cap it the chamber with a with an empty mag of course and wear that thing around the house. Do the same thing for a duty holster. I did this when I got my first glock, I used a snap cap and wore the gun around the house for about 2 weeks. I really beat t up too , I bumped it on everything(doors chairs etc.) Now keep in mind I only use holsters that cover the entire trigger guard. After the abuse I did not have the gun discharge on the snap cap one. This made me feel more confident. If this is a night stand gun I would suggest keeping it in a holster in the nightstand. I ran the same exercise with a loaded snap cap and gun, in the gun drawer. I would set my alarm for random time of night, when the alarm went off I would reach for my gun, as if there was an unwanted intruder in the house, (remember I was using one snap cap in the pipe and an empty mag).I wanted to simulate a real situation of not being fully awake. At first I left the gun out of the holster. I never had the the trigger go off and punch the snap cap . But, a few time i noticed my finger getting close to the trigger. After that I figured it warranted a holster. So now, for nightstand duty, I keep one in the chamber and the gun in a holster that cover the trigger guard. I hope this helps. Remember train for every situation, You never know what kind of situation you will run into in the world today Best of luck . I hope this helps.

I'm afraid to keep my G19 unloaded...
The best thing you can do is take a pistol course from a good instructor. For the most part the whole "fear of a loaded gun" stuff comes from Hollywood. It makes for easy screenplay writing when a gun "goes off" for "no reason".
A loaded Glock is no less safe than a loaded revolver, 1911 with the safety on, loaded Beretta with the safety on/decocked, etc. The more you become comfortable with your Glock, the more secure you will feel in it's design.
Call Glock and ask them for their brochure on the Safe Action. When you see the cutaways and the design, you can see how safe their design is. The likelyhood of a malfunction is lower than your risk of getting hit by a car while crossing the street, so understanding the physics of the design may help your anxiety.
I went through this with my wife, she was anxious, too. This Space For Rent $100/month for your witty saying or cat picture.Comment
