I'm scared to leave my Glock loaded

What the hell is wrong with me? I think it's mostly the light trigger and absense of safety. For this reason I want to switch to 1911/Beretta 92 style gun. Anyone else went through this?

Stick it in a holster where the trigger guard is covered. That may help alleviate some of the anxiety.

light trigger? mine actually feels kinda heavy. more so then my colt 1911, my beretta 92 is fairly heavy on the first pull tho. just be sure to keep your finger of the trigger till you're ready to use it and you'll be fine!

Realize guns have internal and external safeties. The Glock has internal safeties that you don't control other than the little tang built into the trigger. Just because you don't directly control it, it is working for you.

As far as trigger pull, you can make it heavier but unless you have a target trigger in your gun, you should have something around a 4-5lb trigger pull. Over course storing it in a reasonable holster provides additional protection.

Many feel the same way about carrying the 1911 "cocked and locked".

Get a heavy New York trigger for your Glock and you can make your trigger pull much closer to a DA only gun like the Beretta or a revolver. Just make sure you practice more because it will probably be harder for you to make good hits with a longer and heavier trigger pull.

With a decent holster and some training you've got nothing to worry about.

Yup...there is something wrong with you. Get some training.

sign up for a tactical training course.

during that course, it will make you wear your gun in the holster for the entire day. you will need to carry it while its loaded.

since its a control environment, it will help you build confidence of your equipments. i didnt feel safe carrying my XD (first gun) while its loaded prior to that course. after that, i feel comfortable enough to carry my P226 lock and loaded hammer down.

man up. because it does not have a safety you have to flick to disengage.

it is a safe pistol, my father carried one 15 years while he was a cop.

I'm not afraid to keep my Glock loaded. Except for the one that travels in my car (G22C), which has an empty mag loaded, with loaded mags next to it in the same factory box.

By "loaded Glock," I assume you mean having one in the chamber? Because I understand that anxiety and fear of "Glock leg."

A gun will not fire unless the trigger is pulled. If you are afraid that it will by malfunction, or because the trigger might be accidentally pulled by something, keep it loaded, but don't keep a round in the chamber.

If you do keep a Glock with a round chambered, keep it in a holster that covers the trigger guard hole (hard plastic/kydex is good here) so that nothing can protrude into it and activate the trigger.

I feel 100% safe carrying a loaded Glock that has an empty chamber and a full 10 or 15 rd loaded mag inserted. Once I get a holster that covers the trigger guard, I'll carry it round chambered as well (in AZ and once I get CA CCW).

                        trigger finger is your safety

Always assume the gun is loaded
Never point the gun at anything you are unwilling to destroy
Finger off the trigger until you have a sight picture
Know your target and what is beyond
and my personal 5th rule; Never handle guns when drinking

A proper holster that covers the trigger guard can enhance safety, and if all else fails to make you feel safe; leave the chamber empty. Quality training courses should increase your comfort level. Invest in your own skills and you will be a better, safer shooter.

Yes, for a little while I did think that a 1911 was da/sa.

As for Glocks, booger hook, bang switch, it works almost all the time. I don't like them, because reholstering is scary, but that is just me.

Glocks will not fire unless the trigger is pulled. Unfortunately more things can "pull" a trigger than simply your finger. Your finger isn't very smart either, while we're on that subject.

I'd never leave one un-holstered on a bedside table at night ... too many possibilities of an "unhappy surprise" when I reach for the alarm clock and instead activate the alarm Glock. A good holster pretty much solves that problem.

There is no inherent problem with a manual safety either. I am always amazed that people who are afraid of "bobbling" a safety deactivation under stress somehow insist that they would never "bobble" a trigger under stress. The fear of one dictates that one should acknowledge the possibility of the other, IMHO.

Do what you are comfortable with, with what whatever gun you are comfortable, and work to increase your comfort zone within rational bounds.
