✟ In the beginning was the 1911, and the 1911 was THE pistol, and it was good. And behold the Lord said, "Thou shalt not muck with my disciple John's design for it is good and it workith. For John made the 1911, and lo all of his weapons, from the designs which I, the Lord, gave him upon the mountain."✟

Yes, curiousity here, as well. I'd like to know from people who have actually owned them - and the youtube vids seem to give them a fair shake.

Really interested in that 9mm Carbine from Hi-Point.

I brought that up because I have family that own them out of state. After 400-500 rounds they have been flawless regardless of type of ammo used. They feel cheap, are bulky and ugly, but are good tools for the price from my experience

          WTB used AK MFER.

You might find a Makarov in your price range, or just a little over after all the fees are paid.

The Makarov load is a bit small, mostly 9x18 (some are .380), and Maks use an 8-round magazine, but they are small, simple, accurate, and reliable, as well as fun to shoot. The currently-manufactured Bulgarian Makarovs are on the CA approved list. Most of the other variants are C&R so can be sold or shipped here no problem. Ammo is also fairly economical unless you are forced to buy it at the range.

Another vote for the Makarov or the Radom P-64. C&R eligible, dead solid reliable, accurate, and great carry guns. The Mak is more fun to shoot but it's just enough larger to make it not pocketable. The P-64 needs a Wolff spring kit to make the DA pull one-finger friendly and it's not as comfortable to put a lot of rounds through as the Makarov but it's pocketable in most front pants pockets with a DeSantis Nemesis made for a J-Frame. Fully loaded, it's only two ounces heavier than a Taurus 709 and it's exactly the same size.

I agree. Other than Bersa or Snubbie, a Makarov is very reliable and thinner than most people think and could be a good CCW option

I urge you OP, if you do decide to get a pistol other than Makarov or Bersa, dont go "cheap". A CCW is a very important thing.

While I don't own a hi-point pistol, I do own a hi-point 9mm carbine rifle. It's one of my favorite guns, and my collection is comprised of various guns from Kimber, Sig, CZ, Ruger and others.

It always goes bang, and is surprisingly accurate.

Best $300 I have ever spent.

There have to be some FEG PA-63's out there, since hundreds were sold just a few years ago. It is along the lines of the Bersa. Rossi is made by Taurus, and I have not had any problems with my Taurii.

As far as the money thing goes, cost doesn't equate to value. There are good inexpensive guns, and crappy expensive ones. It's CCW, no one is going to know what you have until you use it, and all it has to do is work.
