    para warthog?

i turn 21 in September and i am planning on buying a glock 17, but after that purchase i want to get a 1911 design in .45 auto.

i remember when i was around 16 or 17 holding the para warthog at my local gun store and it felt pretty good but unfortunately i don't see them around any more, can anybody tell me the pros and cons of this weapon? or could you recommend another compact 1911 like this?

for those who don't know what i am talking about, it is this

I'd recommend something closer to full size. Also, the double stack design is less reliable.

Without having any personal experience on the double stack v. single stack arguement, I have heard both. There are a lot of people who claim 100% reliability with a DS 1911.

The warthog is a great small 45. I replaced my G26 with the warthog for CCW two years ago. 45 makes bigger holes and with same number of rounds. Never have any issue with my warthog after 5,000 plus rounds.

I had the P10, basically a plain version of the Warthog. An OK gun, but lots of plastic parts such as the trigger, mag release, MSH and another I can't quite recalll. Also that grip is much like hanging on to a 2X4 - almost as wide as it is long. I liked mine, dumped it for a Colt Defender.

Personally for a "first 1911" I'd get something full sized and single stack. If you like 1911s might as well do it now, get the "sort of 1911" versions later.

Agree with above first 1911 should at least be commander size 4 to 4 1/4" with a full size being the best bet. Then after knowing and being confident with the 1911 move down in size if you want.

Go with a full sized government 1911 with a steel frame. You will enjoy that much more than something sort of specialized like the Warthog. Besides that, I am not a fan of Paras. There are much better options for 1911 and I think that a double stack 1911 takes away from the original design and feel of the 1911.

Para's can be great guns, or, not so much. My experience is that if you get a good one, it's as good as anything out there. But their Quality Control is hit or miss, so you could get a bad one that will never be right.

I do not roll those dice anymore with them.

I have actually had experience with full size 1911's. I've shot my dads colt series 7 and my gpa's Springfield.also when I turned 18 my dad gave me a bhp, also I want a g17 first because I already have mags for it.

Is there anyone who has a Warthog? I am also curious about this gun. It is a nice compact, but I would like the range report.

I have a Para 12 .45 LDA stainless double stack. It is an awesome shooting gun. The only thing I replaced was the guide rod. Anyway, I am considering trading the gun for some new pool equipment, but I will have to replace it with another. So I was thinking the Warthog. THe Para double stack guns are great for people with big dick skinners!

I will vouche for that! I got a deployment custom Para when I got back from Iraq. It is a good gun for the super discounted price I got it for, but if I paid full price I would've been pissed!

I always wanted one. But just never got the chance to pick on up for a good price. Good luck.

I've actually seen more people have trouble with bad single stack mags than people have trouble with double stack 1911 mags.. It has more to do with how you seat them and how the mags are built.. if the mags are quality magazines or have been tuned they are both equally reliable.

I was thinking about buying one last year when Turners had them on special. However, after searching the web they had many feeding problems. I sent Para an email asking them about the feeding issue to see if they have resolved it. No reply!! I personally would not get one. However, a friend of mine has a full sized Para with the high capacity mags and he is happy with it. He did have it tuned at Kings Guns.

I have a P10 ( same as a warthog just steel) They are very very accurate, however they can be prone to malfunctions. I polished my feed ramp and breach face and I have not had any problems with it. The magazines wear out every 6-9 months if you keep it loaded all of the time. I prefer to carry my Glock, but my P10 is my backup gun if my glock is out of commission. I have very large hands, and the P10 is a tidbit so small for me. My father has a P12 and I prefer that just because of the size.
