Have you had any rust problems? Is the base metal carbon steel or something else? And do you do the soaking the barrel thing?

Pointless IMO. But it's aesthetics. Everyone is going to think something different.

If this is done on a Glock, there should be no concern with rusting. The bulk of the rust protection on Glocks comes from the Tenifer treatment to the barrel, which actually penetrates the surface of the steel. Removing the outer color coating just leaves the Tenifer steel exposed, which will take a very high shine once the machine marks are removed.

It can be done on other types of steel as well, just note that they will be more prone to rusting. It's a trivial issue though. If people are taking care of their firearms, keeping them oiled and cleaned, they shouldn't have to worry about rust even if it's just bare steel.

I like it. I especially like the look of the subdued non-highly polished barrel too. I'd like to do it, but I don't want to mess with my stock barrel. Maybe if I find an extra used barrel for cheap, or a lone wolf 40-9 barrel.

Is that your gun in the video jpigeon? If so, may I ask where you get your Ballistol cleaner? I've been looking but I only find it online for over ten bucks a can plus shipping, unless that's what it normally goes for...

I'd rather just buy an aftermarket barrel and keep my factory one intact, or buy a spare OEM barrel and polish it.

just polished mine. it turned out nice, but not like a mirror but im ok with that.
