Ok so it looks like this is a common occurrence, of which I shouldnt worry about. Its really not that big of a deal. I just wanted to make sure that my 1911 is functioning normally. I wear eye pro so its really a non issue, its more comical than anything.

were you shooting reloads or factory ammo? I've had this happen when shooting cheap reloaded ammo that doesn't have the punch to really throw the brass clear.

Pull the extractor out and clean it.

Years ago one of the co workers bought a stainless springfield NIB for a song....he took it out to shoot it and after dodging the first 50 rounds decided to sell it again....My father bought it for $100 more than the guy paid (Still a song) after the first mag my father adjusted the ejector and now it a nice shooter.

It has nothing to do with ammo, extractor, limp wristing or anything else mentioned. It's a common problem with 1911's based on the original Colt 1911 design - I had the same problem with my Colt Gold cup.

I had some accurizing work done to the gun years ago and the gunsmith asked me if I experienced getting hit in the face with the brass...I did...A LOT. He tweaked the ejection port a bit and I have never had that happen since. Don't ask me what he did...but it worked.

Just got my Loaded back from SA today, I was having the same issue along with failure to eject on the last round of the magazine. I called Springfield and they had me send it in for repairs, they did not think shells hitting you in the face was acceptable and wanted me happy with my pistol.
Springfields customer service is first rate, give them a call and see what they say. You will probably be without your pistol for a couple weeks. But you will be much more happy with your gun down the road.

                      Get your extractor tuned..

And your ejection port lowered and flared if it isn't already. I believe it is, but it can go lower I'm sure. Just find a smith with a good rep. I recommend Kings Gunworks if you're in So. Cal.

Definitely an extractor problem. My friend's Colt officer's was doing the same thing. Once I properly tensioned, and tuned the extractor all the problems went away. I usually change the factory extractor to a Wilson Bulletproof. Once it is properly tuned, and tensioned everything ejects perfectly.

You can lower ports and extend ejectors until you are blue in the face, but if our extractor is not properly holding the case rim you will get erratic ejection patterns.

                        Things to look at:
                        1. Remove slide from pistol. Slide loaded round under extractor. It should require a little bit of pressure, and the round should be held in no matter how you tilt the slide. If the rim of the case just falls under the extractor you do not have enough tension.

2: shape of the extractor hook is important to both feeding, and extraction.
Take a look at this link for way more info.

If you don't feel comfortable working on the pistol I strongly suggest you either send the pistol back for proper tuning, or take it to a gunsmith, and specify you want a quality bar stock extractor to be installed.

I'll take it off your hands if you want. I would take brass and other things off the face for a free SA Loaded... not in a gay way of course.
