There should be a handful of members that own one according to the "1911 porn" thready. I would like to have one someday...but for the price there would probably be other cooler options I'd look into first (Nighthawk, Ed Brown, Wilson, etc) if I haven't already of course.Last edited by ///D; 07-23-2007, 11:01 PM.sigpic -

I know it's time for you to liquidate 3 1911s. Make me a deal of the century.

Go to 1911forum.com or m1911.org for more info about the various brands. Everyone has their favorites and whether its a NHC, Baer, SA Custom, Brown, or Wilson they've all earned their place among the top 1911 makers in the country. None of them are perfect but they are all capable of making some of the best 1911's you could shoot. Just don't expect miracles. Just because you own a Gibson Les Paul doesn't mean you'll play like Jimmy Page.Comment

I own a PC9102 Custom Carry, which is very similar to the PRO. I actually had a PRO on order, but after the Custom Shop delayed delivery in favor of .mil and LEO orders THREE TIMES, I cancelled the order. The Custom Carry is basically a PRO without the ambi safety, magwell, frontstrap checkering, or Black-T. Nowlin barrel/bushing, National Match slide/frame, extractor, ejector, hammer, sear, trigger, etc. are the same.
I also own two Les Baer Thunder Ranch Specials and a Wilson Combat CQB. Honestly, I find them all equally excellent. The PRO is just as nice, but the problem is this - it comes one way. For me, I don't want the ambi safety, I dont want a magwell, and I want an undercut trigger guard (which is standard with both Baer and Wilson). So for me, it made more sense to get the Custom Carry at $1,500, and then send it back to Springfield Custom to get it "just right" for my tastes. Upside? Slightly less money than a PRO but actually better IMO. Downside? 6 month wait to get your gun built, then you gotta ship it back. I actually just sent my Custom Carry back to Springfield via UPS not more than 2 hours ago. So, I have a few month wait ahead of me, but it'll be a unique gun and I guarantee you it will look fantastic.
Also, the nice thing about Springfield Custom Shop is that their CA-certified models don't have front cocking serrations, unlike Baer/Wilson/Nighthawk. If you prefer to do without FCS, Springfield Custom and Brown are your options unless you wanna do a full-house custom off a Colt or Springfield MilSpec/GI base gun.Comment

I own a Pro.
It's the finest 1911 on the market, IMO.
I handled a few Wilsons and Nighthawks at my local shop and frankly was quite disappointed with them.
The fit and finish - particularly the slide to frame fit - was quite poor for a $3K gun. Not that they weren't tight - but there were unsightly gaps that are simply unacceptable on such an expensive gun, particularly when my $1K Springfield TRPs have a positively seamless slide/frame fit with NO gaps whatsoever - the slide & frame look as if they are one solid piece when looking at the rear of the pistol.
I think one of the things that speaks highest for the Pro is the fact that you practically NEVER see them for sale on the secondhand market - almost NEVER.
When people get their hands on one, they keep 'em, period.
Just handle one & you'll see why.
At first, I had a bit of regret, but the longer I owned & fondled it, the more I love it.
Here I am now considering dropping another $2K or so on another....

I also love the 20 LPI checkering on the Pro.
The fit and finish is immaculate and the gun is ridiculously accurate.
I can give more details if you ask, but right now I'm going to stop typing because my brain is fried after about 13 hours of work.

Cut and pasted from the official PRO specification thread on 1911 forum, posted by me...
Gentlemen,
As of today, September 5th 2006, the PRO still has the following MIM parts -
-mag catch
-beavertail grip safety
-slide stop
This is per Deb at the Custom Shop. The FP stop is not MIM.
Just thought I would post a definitive answer straight from the source.
______end quote______
People have speculated but that is straight from the source. Oh, and the slide stop is made by a local machine shop for Springfield right there in Geneseo, also straight from the source. It's funny, people have debated and pondered this stuff on forums before, but all you gotta do is talk to Deb.
I'm having the slide stop replaced with a Wilson BulletProof part (and the safety, but that's not MIM anyway, I just like the Wilson part). I don't know if anyone makes a forged steel or barstock beavertail, and the mag catch... it doesn't bother me at all.
I just checked Ed Brown and Wilson Combat... both companies definitely list when a part is forged or barstock. Neither mention the material that their beavertails are made of... I assume that it's basically a zero-impact part, and the shape is more complex, so they're all using MIM for this part (or stamped steel, I guess).Comment
