    Colt 1911 feeding?

I have just aquired a bone-stock series 80 government model that has seen some shooting by the previous owner. Question: do these guns normally shoot and feed the self-defense ammo that is around these days? Or should I expect to send it away for a reliability job? Thanks...

Try it out with a few different brand, also look into powerball. It's a hollowpoint with a polymer ball so it's shaped like fmj but will expand like jhp. Look into some quality mags while your shopping around.

I have a series 80 Colt Gold Cup NM I bought about 15 years ago. It won't feed Federal Hydra Shock bullets. I've also seen several other Colt 1911s with unsupported barrels that won't feed the same bullet.

However, it feeds semi wad cutters, Nosler 185 JHPs (hand loads) & any FMJs just fine. Buy a box of each defense loads and test them all. And, practice clearing malfunctions with all guns.

Have you checked to see if its already had any work done to it?
        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I recommend having a reliability package done to any 1911 so it will feed whatever you put in the mag, even target wadcutters for bullseye competition. If it will feed those, then it'll feed anything!

The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

My series 70 gold cup really only likes ball ammo. It is presently in the shop to address this. It choked on wad cutters and hollowpoints out of the box.
