Whats up calguns. just thought I would dive in, Im 22 and buying my first handgun. I grew up shooting my dads sig p229 and a number of other guns in our circle of family friends. My point, I would appreciate some insight regarding the M&P 40, I realize that purchasing a handgun largely has to do with what you are comfortable with. This was a huge factor when choosing my gun and the M&P dominates the comfort field I am a larger guy at 6'7 and had felt that glock was a lil short in the length of the grip, i was disapointed to say the least as it is in my price range. so my main contenders are the XD and the S&W M&P, I feel that these are almost generic choices for a lack of a better term Im looking for any suggestions to look into as I am waiting for my new state ID and have a significantly longer time than anticipated. I kind of jumped the gun when I passed my hand gun saftey test and put 200 dollars down on an m&p 40 that unfortunatly was WAY OVER PRICED LIST PRICE 689$ what a joke! I called the store and they informed me that they do price match so I will be printing out the smith and wesson website which lists the guns retail price at 569$. 2nd question IF i stick with the M&P how should I approach "price match" friendly store, i Quote it because I dont understand how a shady company with such a mark up would just knock off a 100 dollars to match a price? any input? and I found another local store that has one for 589$ i almost feel like screw the price match and go to the local gun store and give them my buisness, and if so I feel like I should remove the layaway from the original store? anyways I apologize for ranting on here but I am very excited for my gun and have had a blast doing research and hope that I can hear from some more experienced shooters. Thank you very much. B76

Welcome to CalGuns.
I love my M&Ps. I have the .40 and .45 full size models. Never had a failure in over 8k rounds between them.

Since you're young, you might not know...gun shops are often like car dealerships. Nobody pays sticker. Some large chains like Turner's don't haggle, but most every smaller shop will. Good luck and enjoy!sigpic "On bended knee is no way to be free." - Eddie Vedder, "Guaranteed"

I appreciate the help. i will look at the apex tactical website very interested in puttin some cash into some upgrades. im pretty much set on my M&P just wish i would get drafted so i can get one of each a sig, HK, Springfield LOL. until then i feel that S&W has jsut what I need. so they said theyll price match so I should just bring a couple price quotes from online and seewhat they say? I have seen as low as 500- to 570 online. Do u think theyll question reliabilty of my sources. or should I just go and thell them what im looking for 570-580? and leave it at that and ask for a refund if they dont work with me? I dont mean to sound like a Pu*$# just saying dont know if i should give it a shot or just take the buisness else where. ALSO JUST HAD TO VENT ABOUT THE BS WITH THE NEW CA ID SECURITY UPGRADES, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT TAKES 3 MONTHS TO GET IT AND THEY ONLY GIVE U A 30 DAY TEMP LICENSE WHAT A PAIN IN THA ARSE. . .Comment

S&W recently lowered the MSRP so the dealer cost should have gone down, too. The price you paid may have been stock from before the change.
BTW, paragraphs are your friend. Makes it a lot easier to read.Disclaimer:

+1
Plus I'd recommend the 9mm model or .45 for such large hands. My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.Comment

Just DROS(ed) a M&P .40. Have you shot one? I shot a 9mm and a .40 and honestly can't see why you'd want to go with the 9mm unless its ammo cost... the guns side by side look the same and shoot the same...to me anyway...
