    First Gun

I am a newbie to firearms. i know some things but can learn a lot more.

looking for suggestions for my first handgun.

    looking for:

-preferably 9mm but .40 and .45 are an option.
-prefer handguns preferably mostly metal as the polymer/metal guns feel too light to be comfortable in my hand
-prefer to not spend more 800 (absolute max of $1000) not including DROS, taxes, etc.
    -fullsize handguns are preferred.

the two guns i am mainly considering right now are the SIG P226 and the Beretta 92FS

    Thanks!

Since you said you wanted a full size metal gun check out the CZ75B or CZSP01 they are both awesome accurate handguns and they are DA/SA just like the beretta 92fs. They come in 9mm too.

      1. go to range and shoot both
      2. go to store and buy the one that fit you best
      3. enjoy new pistol

Go to your local gun store (LGS) and handle all the guns they have. Make notes of what feel s good in your hand.

Then go down to a range and rent what you liked at the store and shoot them.

Go back to your LGS and buy what you liked the best and a bunch of ammo.

Go back to the range and shoot YOUR new gun.

That being said both guns you are looking at are great guns. If you haven't shot them yet read line number 2 of this post
        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Not an easy question to answer, so many choices. The general rule of thumb: try to find a range that rents firearms. See if they have what you want and try them out.

It's a lot like: who likes Ford, Chevrolet...Honda? Based on personal preference and your particular needs.

The Sig and Beretta are excellent choices. I like 9mm, but a lot of folks say BLAH to that. No stopping power they say. Good Luck.

Forget those and get a .50 AE Desert Eagle. It's the only option for a first time gun buyer! JK
Go to the range and rent a few and go from there. Even try a couple you were really not interested in because some may surprise you. Good luck in your search!

Interested at all in a revolver? That's a great first option too...especially to fit your criteria. Just a thought.

We really need a sticky for these threads.

Go to the range and rent the guns you're interested in, and then rent the ones that you wouldn't consider. Sometimes you can be surprised by a gun, especially some of the CZ lineup.

Go to your local range and rent a few. That should help you decide.

You have some good choices up there, but the best bet is go to your local gun shop and hold a few to see how they feel and rent a few of them too. I was going to go with the beretta at first too until I held the CZ 75 SP-01 and like the way it fit my hand better.

Your choices are solid but the Browning P-35 "High Power" deserves a good look.

I am always looking for Beretta D models in 9mm or a Compact Type M.

CZ since you're ruling out polymer. SiG a close second.
