Need a smaller CCW weapon

I've had a CA CCW for 3 years now and it's time for a smaller, compact pistol to replace the SP101. My problem is I know very little about the reliability of the small semis. I'm looking for some thoughts on a good one that does not suffer feed issues and will last me.

I'll probably make a trip down to Bass Pro soon to take a look. They had a pretty good selection last time I was through there.

Sorry, can't help you on small autoloaders, but if you are referring to bass pro in Rancho Cucamonga, ammo bros a couple minutes south has better prices (and far greater knowledge/service). Hope this helps you any. Good luck with your decision

I was thinking the Bass Pro near Tracy. I'm from east of Sac. I don't know the "good" places so I'm open to advice on that as well.

Glock 26/27 if your Glock fan, (not for me) but great guns.

Check out the line of Kahrs, they do require at least 200 rounds to break in and to make sure it will function every time with the ammo you will use, pretty much the smallest thinnest pistols available to us with a few exceptions.

You can check out a few size comparisons of my CCW guns, I too ride a ST1300 and plated XR650R and will carry when I ride

I primarily carry a G30SF for CCW, no problems for all day carry in a Supertuck Deluxe. The G26 is a bit smaller/lighter but it's less comfortable to shoot, for me.

Come down into Sacto and take a look in River City Gun Exchange

I can highly recommend the Kahr P9 (K9 if you like steel, CW9 for the budget polymer) or for something smaller the PM9 (CM9 budget gun coming out this year)

Both will be slimmer and smaller than your SP-101 and still have the DA trigger pull you are used to, while having a nicer trigger feel

I started carrying the G23 then I felt that was too big and went to the G27 after a yr. I felt that was too big now i have a Kahr P9 it’s the same size and weight as the less expensive CW9 – I really enjoy the thin and light Kahr P9

I have an S&W Model 042 Airweight that's smaller and lighter than your SP-101.
Nice carry gun that's light enough for you to almost forget its there.

For small, compact and durable, especially when riding, I'd go with either the Kahr K9 or K40. I have a K9 and like it. It's heavy due to the all steel construction but easy to shoot well and as rugged as a brick.

My other suggestion would be similar in size to your SP-101 but flatter. A Colt Defender, 3.5" barrel 1911 style in .45 ACP or 9mm if you prefer. Colt's New Agent is a DAO 9mm pistol that's lighter, slimmer with a 3-3.5" barrel.

I would never carry most semi-autos while riding with a round chambered. There is too much chance that a fall/collision will generate enough force to cause the firing pin to overcome the inertia spring and discharge the gun in the holster.

I love Glocks, but I think your going to find a 26 a brick compared to that 101. I would look into a Kahr K9.
