UPDATE: What is suitable for utility bill?

Just paid for the newest member of the family!
Tried to use Guard Card and Firearm Permit for proof of residency. Didn't work, so I used my car registration. However Guard Card and Firearm permit is suitable for BFSC.

Im buying a gun in less than 15 hours. Its used and will be PPT. Because it has been a while since my last purchase, someone mentioned I need a utility bill to show proof of residency.

Heres the thing...all the bills are in my wifes name. (What a gal!) What can I take that is sufficiant?

This is all I found with my name on it:

Student loan bills from Sallie Mae
The lease to our house
Credit Card applications
Magazine renewal forms
Culigan drinking water bill
CA State tax return
Car registration/pink slip
Bank Statements
Drivers License
Guard Card
Firearm permit


Any ideas?

car reg is easiest, always with you when you drive to the ffl.

Car registration will work.
I believe the Lease to your house may as well.

but your CA driver's license and vehicle registration are all that's needed and usually what i bring.

Do not show anyone your tax return or bank statement.

And make sure you have a handgun safety certificate if you're buying a handgun.

im out of state military so i know you need something like a lease or a billing statement. But i thought if you were already a california resident that your DL is good enough?

My handgun safety cert is expired, but they said my exsposed firearm permit will over ride that.

Don't sweat it, it's almost impossible to NOT pass. I asked a dude working at Turners last time I had to renew if anyone had ever failed, he said he had never seen anyone, but he'd heard of 1 person. Common sense and they let you miss alot before failing. If you do need to retake, good luck bro.

bank statements do not count for showing proof of address.. the tax return will work just fine.. the only info they need is your address and the letterhead from the "government agency" you are free to photocopy the return and black out everything else..

So far I have my lease to my house, car registration, and now tax papers.

Something has to qualify.
