    Smith & Wesson Sigma??

My father owns this pistol and i hear a lot of good stuff about it and a lot of bad stuff.

Most people gripe about the hard trigger pull, but for a inexpensive gun it seems alright. Many people often bring up the fact that it looks like a glock and that glock had a law suit against S & W, but i personally think its good for HD etc etc. You can't beat a reliable $300 pistol

So what are your thoughts and/or experiences with this gun?

The Sigmas are designed as a personal defense firearm therefore the stiff trigger pull to insure that the trigger is not accidently pulled. These pistols are really not suited for target shooting due to the stiff trigger pull.

But as Personal Defense firearm try to lawyer-proof it with heavy trigger is just ... well..
and been a SD weapon it has to be 100% reliable. Which the early sample I own does not exhibit.

        THE NEW GUY

I had the .40 and my brother had the 9mm.

I sold mine because the 10# trigger pull made the plastic trigger flex. Other than that, I had no issues.

My brothers 9mm, shot more accurate than my 40. Both fit in glock holsters. Kinda snug, but hard to find instore parts for the sigma.

Not a bad back up gun, or just something to add to a collection.
I would get a ruger instead. Prices are similar.

There's no excuse for a trigger like that. It was bad.
As a truck gun or a gun that sits somewhere for defense reasons, i guess it works. It never jammed on me.

The trigger just was bad. If you haven't tried it, go check it out. Its a pretty bad trigger pull.

I have shot it at the range once and my shot was so off :P I also shot a .45 1911 that day and man was that a nice gun.

I think the sigma is decent though. Maybe a 6 or 7/10

Ever one I have played with was fine, I can see complaining if it won't cycle decent ammunition, but the triggers aren't bad at all in my opinion; the Glock and Ruger SR9 feel funny and squishy to me. For $350 MSRP quit complaining and work on those pansy forearms.

I bought one when they first came out. Mine was dead nuts reliable. But after a few years, and a lot more experience with other pistols, I realized that I hated the trigger action. YMMV.

Apparently, the original Sigma slides were so dimensionally close to Glock's, that you could swap them on the frames. They wouldn't actually function, but they fit. After the lawsuit was settled, S&W made some minor changes to the design. I have no experience with the newer Sigmas.

I also had the Sigma in 40.cal. it actually seemed lighter than my glock 23. It never FTF or FTE. it shot everything i gave it. i would feel safe having it as an only gun in my house. Now the Bad, the trigger Pull was Horrible. took it to the range once and sat in the safe the remainder of the time i had it. Also it had the Dumbest Rails ever and all my lights/lasers could not fit it unless i bought the adapter which made the setup HUGE. That being said i sold it to buy a glock 22.

I purchased the Sigma when they first came out in the mid 90's. IIRC, the Sigmas were priced significantly higher than what they are priced now being that it was to be the competing pistol vs. the Glock.

My SW9F is a great pistol and I don't notice the hard trigger pull as everyone else does. Honestly, I love my Sigma and for what the price point they are now I don't see how you can lose. Of course, this is all my opinion, but my Sigma has never failed me, no FTF, FTE, no problem whatsoever.

I have my 9ve that I still shoot every now and then. Negatives are the non standard rail, heavy trigger, and for some reason mine does not feed the Hornady FTX well.

I bought a first generation Sigma a while back from a friend that was thinning out of his herd. I liked the way it felt in my hand but the trigger seemed a tad on the heavy side. I ran about 250 rounds through it in one outing (about 200 rounds of hardball and 50 rounds of HP's). After about the third mag full i started to get the hang of the trigger. At 21 feet, simi rapid fire i could keep them all pretty much center mass in a three inch circle. It was dead nuts reliable.

I the need ever arises i wouldn't hesitate to grab it if it wasthe only gun i had close at hand.

Its a good HD gun. But a ruger would be a better gun imo

I always tell people looking at that weapon to save a little while longer and get a Glock or save even longer and get a Sig P226, P229 or my favorite P220
