Bringing pistol back to CA, transfer question

I've read through posts and websites about bringing a pistol back to CA and I have a question. I'm from Ca, but a student in Co meaning I can buy in Co.

If I bring a pistol that's not on the Ca list I can bring it back for my use but can I give it to my father? I know transfers are legal between related adults, but I want to make sure that there isnt a loophole saying no transferring of pistols that arent on that silly Ca gun list.

once a off roster gun is here legally. it can be transferred. there may be issues with how you get it here legally.

Based on what you say, you have become a resident of CO confirmed by a CO drivers license, mailing address and if applicable, filed state income tax returns in CO. You probably worked in CO and received wages there as well while attending school. If that is the case, then when you move back to CA, you become a CA resident again. You would fill out the form for non residents moving into CA to register the pistol and pay the application fee for each firearm you will register in CA. All you need to do is bring the pistol back with you when you move back whether it is by air or ground transportation.

Just because you were originally a CA resident does not mean you will always be a CA resident if you move to another state and establish new residency. Even if you are a student intending to move back to CA, after finishing school.

Clarification to my post. I was just responding to how you can bring the pistol into CA without issue in your situation and register the pistol in CA. Now to transfer the pistol to your father while you are still a CO resident might be an issue. I believe you need to be a CA resident to sell/transfer it in CA, so something you should confirm.

He can still give it to his Father as an Intra-Family transfer as these are exempt from the roster. But, as being a resident of a different state Federal law requires the transfer be made through a FFL.

He could ship any pistol; except an AW, to a dealer in California for transfer to his Father.
          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.
