    legal mac 10?

I was told there are some rare mac 10's that fire from the open bolt that are legal. I am offered the opportunity to buy one. I am hesitant to buy it with out proper knowledge. it is stamped: SAP m 10 45 AUTO
    RPB INDUSTRIES
    ATLANTA. GA USA

The weapon has a three digit serial number.
It has a bag, three high capacity mags, one small mag, and a fake suppressor.
I Know about guns but not this one. Any info helps.

    thanks

What state are you in? If in California theres a number of issues.

The barrel is threaded; that makes it an assault weapon and illegal to posess in original intact form unless it's a registerred assault weapon which would make it illegal to transfer.

Threads can be removed and so can barrels by the current owner, or a magazine lock could be fabricated. The current owner is violating the law if these modifications aren't already performed, unless he has registerred it as an assault weapon, which would prevent transferring it unless it's de-registerred after modifications were done. I believe he could also dissasemble the upper from the lower as we don't have constructive posession laws on assault weapons.

High capacity magazines would need to be disassembled as rebuild kits in order to transfer and blocked to 10 rounds or not reassembled until out of state.

Technically it's not a "listed" assault weapon as the listed version is the later one marked SM10 which the open bolt models don't have stamped on them.

I believe they stopped production on these back in around 1982-1984 due to the ease of converting them to full auto. I used to see them in shops for around $250.00 new back then. They're fairly collectible in free states. Heres one on Gunbroker that sold for $1425 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=201968559

REDCLIFF - Pretty much covered it all. If you have any more question read his post again.
      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

A threaded barrel is legal with a magazine lock, correct?
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

It depends on what accessories, (they can considerably increase the value)

is this having to be brought in from out of state or is it in state?

how many mags? what cal? how many uppers/bolts etc.

Its its a .45apc it's in the bag it came in, it has a fake suppressor, three large mags, one small mag. It is in this state and has been here since he bought it. I have pictures but I didn't want to post if it is not legal. It is a friend's gun, he is dieing of cancer and has been selling his guns to put some money together for his grand kids college. He's an old timer and lives up in the hills so i have been helping him sell them. I didn't have enough info on this one. I didn't want to sell it for to little or go to jail. thanks for all the info

First make sure it is disassembled (separate the upper from the lower) it should just require the removal of one pin up front.

the fake suppressor can be tack welded to the barrel to make the gun legal...

If you're interested in putting it on consignment send me a PM and I'll point you in the right direction.

You can buy a legal mac 10 in fresno at prk arms or rifle gear in costa mesa, they run about 550.

If your freinds gun is on the "list" of banned assault weapons he can't sell the gun.

Its a felony possesion so do your homework

The modern closed bolt ones run 550, the open bolt is quite a bit more pricey because the BATFE declared them to be machine guns in 1982, and then grandfathered all of the prior ones sold

and of the open bolts, the .45 is a bit more valuable than the 9mm.

the SAPM10 is the legal variant...

just make sure it is sapM10 and not sM10... the sM10 is a banned by name assault weapon.

It is also possible that he may have registered it as an assault weapon in which case it would have to be unregistered before it could be sold/transfered.
