    1911 in 9mm

Is it possible to find a reliable 1911 in 9mm for under $800? ..... I know Springfield and Kimbers make them but they are over $1k.... I have looked at the RIA 1911 9mm but I dont think they are reliable enough for self defense handgun.

NOTE: CA Roster is not an issue here..

STI spartan is your best bet, or spend a little more and get the STI trojan.

Wait until the Springfield Loaded 9mm goes on sale in the CGN Marketplace. I'm pretty sure I've seen one or two go on sale in the past few months for under $1k. Not sure I'd want a 9mm 1911 for SD though

Good Luck. Spend the extra cash and buy the best you can. Go with an SA loaded.

I've got a springfield 9mm stainless target... it's the funnest 1911 I've ever shot or owned. makes one hole groups... it's almost like cheating... compared with shooting my 45acp 1911's ... That said I've got a hankering for a P7 or it's varient.. might be up for sale soon. It will be a tough one to let go of...

I liked shooting the Kimber Pro Carry II gun in 9mm. You can find them new for $750 on GB, so maybe around that same price or cheaper for LEO pricing.

1911's aren't like tupperware guns. You'll have to spend a bit.

Under $800 means used, most likely. The "nice" new 1911 style 9mm pistols will all push $1k+ in a hurry.

For SD use, the Kimber Pro Carry II (or Ultra Carry II if you want smaller) seems very nice and actually carries a MSRP under $1000, iirc. Off-roster, of course, but it doesn't matter in your case, clearly.

It also depends what size you are talking about... 3", 4", or 5" bbl?

Well, I also don't think theres anything wrong with a 9mm for SD, I have a P-01 for home defense right now. I just figured, if you're going to get a full sized 1911, it might as well be a .45ACP.

If you're patient and vigilant you can buy a Colt Commander in 9mm for around $800.

But you better act quickly when you find one. They get snapped up faster'n a minnow can swim a dipper.

I picked up this Loaded 9mm for $850 in the marketplace last year and it's great.
