Multiple pistols with multiple calibers, or stick with 1 caliber for 'em all?

Because not everyone has to purchase guns for the sole purpose of preparation for some world changing apocalyptic event... I look to shoot because it's fun. Personal protection is just an advantage that goes with this hobby. Your sole reason for purchasing firearms may be just for personal protection, and that's fine, but I don't believe people should be discouraging variety for the sake of enjoyment.Agreed. Why have to buy different types of ammo to shoot your guns. SHTF or TEOTWAWKI...... Please. If I run through my 1500 rounds of 9mm im in a world of hurt cause apparently I have lost my rifle. The LAST thing you should be thinking about is carrying 18 different handguns just in case you run across that particular type of ammo.
9mm is the cheapest, easiest to control and found practically everywhere in the US and outside it. That being said, Id stick with .40 or do a switch to 9mm.Comment

This is assuming you will be out running around if SHTF. I would buy a few different calibers. I never knew how much i liked 45 acp until i started shooting it a decent amount. If i only owned a 9mm i would have never realized that. I have certain weapon systems for certain jobs. I stick to common calibers just to save money. I dont buy into the fact that there is one caliber for every job.....unless that caliber is 45acp.Agreed. Why have to buy different types of ammo to shoot your guns. SHTF or TEOTWAWKI...... Please. If I had a disposable income I would have variety. My end of the world rant was in response to another poster. Not discouraging variety for the sake of fun. Buy away and enjoy.Comment

I have shot all of the available calibers and found .40 to be my liking (able to shoot with fairly decent accuracy and handle the recoil comfortably), which is the reason I currently use this caliber. And some of what I've heard about this concern have been echoed again in here (i.e. cost, SHTF, diversify, etc). Thanks for all the input guys. I guess I'll just wait and see when the time actually comes.Comment

I like having variety in different caliber handguns because each caliber has it's own characteristics and sometimes I feel like shooting one over the other. I would have to say my favorites are .45acp and .38 special. Sometimes I feel like shooting 9mm and less often I feel like shooting .40, but it's nice to have the option.
In the beginning when I only had one gun I could enjoy shooting just one caliber, but through the years of trying different calibers I have come to enjoy the characteristics of each one and enjoy having a variety of guns.Comment

You get to shoot .45ACP for less than the cost of commercial 9mm if you reload

I buy a variety of guns in the same caliber. 1 box can feed 5 full mags in 5 different handguns. +1.. It gets very expensive. I will try to stick with one caliber (9mm) and one platform (glock). Concentration on one platform should definitely make you better at it. That being said, if you have tons of free-time and married a wealthy sugar mama, then variety is the spice of life I say.
Any gun owner who does not support the NRA is a freeloader.

Haha sweet, didn't notice my post number. Oh, damn I just ruined it...
If I wasn't looking for a .357 mag revolver, I probably would pick your M&P up.Comment
