As most everyone here knows, our fine state has an elaborate program to make sure that all handguns sold by FFLs in California are "safe." This protects all of us. It protects the public. It even protects innocent kittens.
But sadly, one group of people is NOT protected by this wise and sound program: cops! These poor guys not only have to deal with drunks and the great unwashed public, they are also burdened with possibly carrying firearms that the state of California has found to be unsafe.
This is wrong. We cannot permit it to continue. Who would wish an "unsafe" gun on anyone? Putting unsafe guns in cops' holsters puts innocent police officers at risk, and also puts everyone else at risk. What if one of these unsafe guns leapt out of a holster and started spraying bullets all by itself?
I haven't figured out how to do it, but I'd like to see a widespread lobbying effort to extend the "safe" gun list and its prohibition of non-list guns to law enforcement as well as the public. There is no reason that these poor guys should have to deal with unsafe guns. All of us could start by getting in touch with our state reps.
It is possible that this might highlight that the "list" has nothing to do with safety. But that would be an unintended consequence. The goal is make our officers safer!
