    Unsafe Guns For Cops

As most everyone here knows, our fine state has an elaborate program to make sure that all handguns sold by FFLs in California are "safe." This protects all of us. It protects the public. It even protects innocent kittens.

But sadly, one group of people is NOT protected by this wise and sound program: cops! These poor guys not only have to deal with drunks and the great unwashed public, they are also burdened with possibly carrying firearms that the state of California has found to be unsafe.

This is wrong. We cannot permit it to continue. Who would wish an "unsafe" gun on anyone? Putting unsafe guns in cops' holsters puts innocent police officers at risk, and also puts everyone else at risk. What if one of these unsafe guns leapt out of a holster and started spraying bullets all by itself?

I haven't figured out how to do it, but I'd like to see a widespread lobbying effort to extend the "safe" gun list and its prohibition of non-list guns to law enforcement as well as the public. There is no reason that these poor guys should have to deal with unsafe guns. All of us could start by getting in touch with our state reps.

It is possible that this might highlight that the "list" has nothing to do with safety. But that would be an unintended consequence. The goal is make our officers safer!

Actually the roster is not a list of "safe" handguns, but "not-unsafe" handguns.

If you want to get technical, LEOs can purchase not-not-unsafe handguns.

I can't have it so one can? Grow up troll.

It should be about extending rights to everyone, not taking it away from one group.

Any gun owner who does not support the NRA is a freeloader.

i see your point, i would add why do leo's need high cap mags? if we dont have them, then they would not have a need for them as well right? i mean if we can protect our family and neighbors with 10 rounds or less , then they should be able to do the same right?

More armed citizens = Quicker response times, less victims.

Guns should only be surrendered one bullet at a time.

I see Your point . But I would not go there.... I would MUCH rather lift the ban on std capacity magazines.
                        Here is why:
I am an LEO and many times carry a Sig P220 with a "4 pack" on my belt. eight round magazines. And MOST of the time carry a 6 shot 357 mag off duty. And feel just fine with it....
So if this is the case, someone may say : why would a civilian need anything more?

I would much rather get rid of the list and magazine regulations.

"The only reason to have 33 bullets loaded in a handgun is to kill a lot of people very quickly. These high-capacity clips simply should not be on the market," Lautenberg said.

Hmm, so the only reason to have Hi Caps is to kill a lot of people quickly? Well our local Police Force is supposed to be protecting not killing us, yes no?

We're in complete agreement. I believe you took my kinda to mean congress can kinda do it, in fact I was using it as it's kinda a comparison to the magazine issue presented by the OP
