    glock 9mm vs .40

im really having a hard time choosing either a 9mm glock or a .40 glock. i have other handguns but mostly in 9mm. what would you people on CG perfer. and reason its so hard choosing is because i am wanting to do my own reloads in 9mm but it wouldnt hurt too bad buying a few boxes of ammo in .40 share your thoughts of what you perfer a 9mm or .40 and why

For competitions and general practice, I shoot a G17 or G19 (cheaper ammo)
For home defense, I keep my G22 at the ready (bigger hole, more knockdown power)
    Buy both is my recommendation.

hah home defense is nothing im too worried about. got the handy dandy shotgun for that job. im more looking to be carrying it around open carry and self defense and shooting here and there. does anyone believe a 9mm is false protection because i get that alot from when i talk to people at the range mostly all of them carry .45s

For sure get a .40 caliber handgun. (or a .45 Glock).

I am assuming you've rented a .40 GLOCK at the range.?

If I had to buy only one .40 caliber handgun it would be a GLOCK 23.

It's the exact same size as the GLOCK 19 (9MM) and is easy to carry and
        shoot.

The problem is making up your mind...hard to do with all the great choices..!
        haha

Here's my GLOCK 23 in OD, and my preban rebuilt 17 round mag.

9mm is a fine round. Just train with it, a lot.

I carry and use a 40 for IDPA and find the round more than capable. I personally feel the 40 is a good mix of bullet weight, speed and amount one can carry comfortably.

All depends on which your more comfortable shooting. I shot carried 9mm for years and now all I carry is .40 cal. Personally I have no issues with control while shooting this round. it does have some kick to it, but as Corbin said I prefer the bullet weight and speed.

            I carry a G27, and also have the 22 & 23. The 23 is a great choice if you want .40 cal.

Ya. 17 is only 9mm. You probably shot a 22( I think 22 is the full size 40).

I have a different opinion than most of the replies so far. Different not better

I don't care for the 40 and will probably not ever own one. Modern 9mm is almost just as powerful. 9mm will be more available in a post apacolyptic scenario.. Nine is cheaper to shoot and reload. 9mm is less snappy, faster follow up shots.

Just my opinion, but I prefer 9mm and 45acp.

9mm good for training...but, rather have the 45 ACP.

You can get a .40 S&W Glock and just buy a conversion barrel and magazine for it and you can safely shoot both calibers! Problem solved. I have done this with my G23 and they make conversion barrels for G22's and G27's also.

Oh great, another 9mm vs .40 vs .45 discussion ;-)

                          First read this: http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/9mm%20vs%2045.htm

IMHO, I can't find any evidence anywhere that one round is heads and shoulders better than the other. In fact, everything I read indicates that in terms of wounding they are all comparable and shot placement is the key. There are excellent self defense rounds for all 3 calibers and the argument that a bigger hole is better in someone is valid only when talking about pistol vs shotgun but not these 3 handgun calibers.

I have pruned my handgun collection to 9mm only but that is just me.

I love this argument: "9mm will be more available in a post apocalyptic scenario." GET REAL! If you don't already have it you aren't going to get it in this SHTF scenario that some gun owners think they need to arm themselves to the teeth for.
Using C Products 10 round magazines in my AR-15...just to be "safe"...

Get real? Wouldn't there be more 9mm in military ammo depots than .40S&W?

Shot placement is great if your assassinating someone.
                              Is that really self defence?
