LA has effectively run most of the gun stores out of town. Perhaps try Retting in Culver City?

If you want a cheap transfer you'll probably need to head out to Orange County. Straightline in Anaheim is the cheapest at $50 for DROS and transfer. I think you can get $75 for DROS and transfer at Ammo Bros in Cerritos and T&A Armory in Santa Ana.

Yup. Them and their posse the la gun squad. Martin Retting in Culver City would be the closest for you. You might want to call for the transfer fee. Oh, DOJ reduced DROS fees to $19 from $25 too.

Martin Retting charges $150 for an out of state transfer. Try Sharpshooters via Gun Genie. Not sure what they charge for an out of state transfer, though.

South of WLA- try suchar-enterprises.com in Lawndale just down the 405 near the airport. Does transfers out of his garage and can accommodate times at night.

North of WLA - try PD Gun Supply (has his own sub forum) in San Fernando. $70 or $75 already including DROS if I remember correctly.

Where'd you get that info? I never expected any government agency fees to go down.

he's updated his site with the dismissal of AB962 so I'm assuming he's still active as of this month. Try his phone number instead of email.

also worth noting that Suchar WILL collect use tax at an amount you disclose to him. Be reasonable (ie believable) with the price and he's cool with it.

PD gun does not pass through the use tax.

Thanks fellas, I appreciate all the tips...

So far, I know Gun Genie won't ship a 96fs to california.

Bud's will, and shows a pawn shop as a "preferred dealer" @ 30 miles away who did their last transfer for $60.

Bud's lists other dealers that are closer, including Martin B. & LAX among others, but indicates you must make your own inquiries regarding fees.

I probably should order the new one from Bud's, instead of wasting time looking around for a used one that may or may not be much cheaper than Bud's price.

                          Decisions, decisions...

Not sure where you got that info but please share. This came from the DOJ's site 27JAN2011 @ 1430 hrs:

                            # How much is the Dealer's Record of Sale (DROS) fee?

The State's DROS fee is $19.00 which covers the costs of the background checks and transfer registry. There is also a required $1.00 Firearms Safety Testing fee and a $5.00 Safety and Enforcement fee. If the transaction being processed is a dealer sale, consignment return, or return from pawn, the dealer may impose other charges as long as this amount is clearly shown as a "dealer fee" and not misrepresented as a state fee. In the event of a private party transfer, the firearms dealer may additionally charge a fee of $10 per firearm transferred.

When settling on the purchase price of a firearm and before completing the transaction, you may want to ask the dealer to disclose and identify any and all fees he/she is charging to complete the transaction.

                            # I want to sell a gun to another person, i.e., a private party transfer. Am I required to conduct the transaction through a licensed California firearms dealer?

Yes. Firearm sales must be conducted through a fully licensed California firearms dealer. Failure to do so is a violation of California law. The buyer (and seller, in the event that the; buyer is denied), must meet the normal firearm purchase and delivery requirements. "Antique firearms," as defined in Section 921(a)(16) of Title 18 of the United States Code, and curio or relic rifles/shotguns, defined in Section 178.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations that are over 50 years old, are exempt from this requirement.

Firearms dealers are required to process private party transfers upon request. Firearms dealers may charge a fee not to exceed $10 per firearm for conducting a private party transfer. Example:

                            1. For a private party transfer involving one or more handguns, the total allowable fees, including the DROS, safety, and dealer transfer fees, are not to exceed $35.00 for the first handgun and $31.00 for each additional handgun involved in the same transaction.
                            2. For private party transfers involving one or more long guns, or a private party transfer involving one handgun, the total allowable fees, including the DROS, safety, and dealer transfer fees, are not to exceed $35.00. The dealer may charge an additional dealer-service fee of$10.00 per each additional firearm transferred.
                            Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.
