Someone just said straightline raised the price to 70 bucks..... I hope thats not true. GREAT guy but just wont be worth the half hour drive at that price, especially with riflegear charging the same amount, but being next door.

    Regardless, I'd recomend them anytime.

How much does the deciel firearms guy in chula vista/bonita charge for out of state transfers?

Ahh..I'd have to email them again since I'm going to pay my gun off. $70 is still good like you said but I'd rather do Ammo Bros Ontario (10 mins away) for $75

Getting a gun from out of state is never a PPT. is it the first type of transaction mentioned in posts 36 and 37: face to face between CA residents. $35 mandated by law

I'll be there tomorrow to pick up my single-shot configured gun that I just had transferred, so I'll ask Don if that's true or not. Even if it is true, it's still a good deal if you are looking to transfer a single-shot handgun, since most other places like Ammo Bros won't do that.

The only thing is that they're then competing with Rifle Gear who's "down the street" so to speak, and they charge $75 for a transfer and also accept single-shot conversions. With that minor amount of a savings, you could end up losing potential customers who may decide to just to to Rifle Gear is they have more stuff to see in their store, since most people usually make additional purchases on merchandise within the store while they're there. However, I'll ask Don tomorrow morning and see what he says.

Yup, Straightline did raise their transfer fees to $70 now. I spoke to Don about it when I was picking up my gun earlier today. It's mainly because of paperwork issues and some other things. But for only an extra $20, that isn't too much of an increase IMO, especially for the great service that they provide to you.

T&A Armory in Santa Ana is good. Picking stuff up tomorrow.

If straigtline now $70 TA is now cheaper than Riflegear,Straigtline and OC armory.

I believe they offer a CGN special on transfers too.

I see no reason to waste more money at the other stores as these shops are all relatively close to each other.

I predicted long ago to my friends that the $25dros plus $25 fee for a ship in at Straightline would not last long.

People as usually are confusing ship ins to a FTF ppt and yes Walker47 charges an illegal amount to do PPT FTF in his shop and at gunshows for some time now.

I think many gunshops don't realize that is actually a misdemeanor.

I confirm with Don @ Straightline via email yesterday, he confirmed that they raised the prices up to $70 out the door due to a lot of mistakes from out of state FFL's that causes them to have to do a lot of follow up.

I used to drive the 20-25 extra mins to go there, now I'll prob just goto OC Armory since it's 5 mins away & only $75 out the door.

I predict Straighlines business going down the toilet now. It was one of the few reasons to go there over other competitive shops. Many others have the same or better pricing and now have cheaper ship in fees.

Yup, I agree with Kram totally. I like the guys a lot and will not badmouth them one bid. So please dont misinterpret this response.

HOWEVER, its just not worth it for me to go to them at that price. Its out of my way. Why dont shops realize that cheap transfers=more customers=more money.

FOR INSTANCE- I just did a 50 dollar out of state at straightline. I appriciated the cheap transfer so much, and their great attitudes that I decided....what the heck, lets buy some ****. So from a cheap transfer, I paid another 100 bucks for random parts that I didn't really need but was happy to buy. I had never been in that shop before and will never be in it again unless I were to do another cheap transfer.
Again, GREAT GUYS, recommend them much. I just dont see why shops dont understand the link between cheap transfers=LOTS of new customers=more random sales=more profit.

Heck, i'm tempted to open my own shop with 40 dollar transfers.......and make a killing on all the random ish i sell when people come to pick up their guns.

+1 for Mitch. I've done a few at his place and he is pretty awesome to work with. Only bad thing is his office hours are only certain days and you have to call to make an appointment.

I believe he still charges $50.

                          Transfer Fees

Just to confirm, our fees are as follows:

                          Dealer transfer - $45 (+$25 DROS = $70)
Dealer transfer for LEO or active duty Mil - $25 (+$25 DROS = $50)
                          Private Party transfer - $10 (+$25 DROS = $35)

Regrettably, we were forced to raise our Transfer Fee to $45.00. This is principally due to the fact that so many other dealers have been shipping guns to us lacking the required paperwork and information required by law. This causes us to have to try to make contact with them with phone calls and emails to chase down the required paperwork, info, etc. which adds a tremendous time burden and in turn costs us money.

Awh, that's a shame. Completely understandable, though but a shame you have to add fee's because of other FFL's mistakes. Unfortunatly...I think I'll have to do my transfer elsewhere now =/ $70 is still a great price but it's a 40 minute drive for me as opposed to the $75 Ammo Bros. location.
"Onlyincali", I was going to do the same thing too haha. Depending on the funds, I would have bought my hollowpoints(2 boxes) there, 1 or 2 boxes of FMJ's and was hoping to find a pistol case(vault) there. Damn, I should have gathered some money earlier.

Question...I am getting ready to make my first gun purchase and I am toying with the idea of buying one online because it's cheaper but I have a few questions:

                                1. Will I be charged a use tax when I pick it up? Even if I buy it from an out of state website?

                                2. Is the process of me buying online and picking it up at an FFL called the "dealer transfer"?

                                3. So if i'm a first time buyer, I should expect to pay the transfer fee, DROS fee, and the $25 HSC certificate test fee, correct?

                                Thanks
