I agree on the arched back, but was always taught to lock the elbows. Can you please tell me why on this advice?

Locking the elbows transmits the energy through your arms to the torso so if the back is arched as well it pushes your body back off balance while the muzzle rises. Slightly bent elbows absorb the energy so if your back posture is correct the gun moves fore and aft only allowing you to stay on target. Try it!

Just a suggestion, if you are going to teach someone to shoot then teach good posture as well. The arched back and locked elbows are a no-no. You need to lean into the gun which keeps the muzzle flip down and your balance correct.

I have her with her arms locked because that's the most consistent way to acquire your sights. If you aren't locked then you have to rely on muscle memory instead of a physical mechanical lock.

I actually missed this. Thanks for the post, I'll have to work on my grip to get something like this going.

On a side note, people who apply revolver or "combat" grip to all their guns usually don't have this problem. Its usually what the proponents of this style grip always bring up.

I don't own any revolvers yet, so I haven't had to worry about blowing my thumbs off. But what is a "combat" grip?
