    Sig SP2022...

Ok, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make another thread with the Sig Sp2022 in the title. Today I noticed that if I hold the gun with my thumbs up, I end up hitting the slide catch on every shot, which locks the slide back. Remembering the grip on the P226, where it pushes your thumb down, I held my SP2022 in a similar fashion and it helped, but it's not how I've been training to hold my handguns.

Does anyone have a similar experience with the Sigs since the catch is right there in the back?

I have big hands, so maybe that's the problem.

I drop my thumbs down so they are parallel with the slide, or essentially horizontal. I've sliced too many thumbs to keep 'em up like that. Good luck, and you will get comfortable changing the grip.

I was teaching my cousin to shoot today and here's how she was holding it.

Dunno, but I'm taking the wife down to Turner's tomorrow to let her check one out. She LOVES her Mosquito (go figure) to death, so I figure the SP2022 will be a good step up. She isn't used to normal pistols so the controls will be familiar. She really likes my 1911 but IMO it's just a bit much. The 9mm should be perfect even though everybody know how ineffective the 9 is...

For $399 how far wrong can we go?

I put my cousin right on it after the Glock 19. She didn't like the Glock as much as the Sig, but she actually liked the HK USP 9mm the most. The Ruger .22 we rented was very bland for her.

I honestly feel like it's more accurate than my Glock 19, but it could be because I've been shooting more lately. The only issue I've had is my thumb hitting the slide catch.

As for your hold, I am not an expert, but it seems to me that your thumbs need to be parallel with the frame and NOT high enough to hit the slide...

Keep your thumbs down unless you're trying to bum a ride

Never have had that happen with my 2022, or any of my other sigs.

Sounds like she has good taste in guns...

Just a suggestion, if you are going to teach someone to shoot then teach good posture as well. The arched back and locked elbows are a no-no. You need to lean into the gun which keeps the muzzle flip down and your balance correct.

I only have that problem with my P239. I always forget to adjust for it during the 1st couple mags.

Good pictures of how to grip a sig and avoid the slide catch.

I just cut the tab off my catch.

I agree on the arched back, but was always taught to lock the elbows. Can you please tell me why on this advice?

                              Thanks
