None of those ways exempt an AW.

The 89 Roberti-Roos ban was for named weapons. Characteristics came into play in the 2000 SB23 ban.

I just asked him to confirm if it was registered or not, and it turns out it's registered, like raw registered? if that makes any sense, So I guess it's ok for him to have it? I'm guessing it's fine for him to have it because it's RAW?

If he filled out the seperate Assault Weapon registration form, mailed it to the California DOJ, and got the confirmation letter back from DOJ then yes it's legal.

Yes, if it's a RAW, he is fine.

You're right. I was thinking SB23 was around the time of the Federal ban, '94.

Ok, Thanks! I was hesitant because I thought RAW only applied to AW like AR's etc not handguns, guess I was wrong, learn something new each day

I didnt know you could register a pistol pre AW ban. I thought all pistols with threded barrels were no-go. Learn something new.

No Sir, but he can get a non threaded barrel, toss it in and make it legal.

Any way you get one it just needs an non-threaded barrel and you're GTG, granted you can find a legit means of transferring one.
