    Good entry level 1911

I turn 21 this April and was thinking about getting a 1911 for my birthday. What model 1911 would be good to pick up for my first one?

Depending on how much you wanna spend.

    For the money, RIA Tactical.

I was thinking of getting a Springfield GI. I like the look of the GI 1911a1. I have seen them for around $650 so I would like to spend around that.

+1 I got mine last Friday. Absolutely satisfied with the gun and the upgrades from the GI. I got mine used here on Calguns, it was only 3 months old.

Forgot to add I paid right in your price range too!

My first 1911 was a Springfield TRP.

Should be able to find a used Springfield mil-spec for around $650 OTD.

Better starter to build off of than the GI.....IMO

Well I still have to wait until April 1st before I can buy it so hopefully there will be some around by then.

The loaded looks awesome but is a little out of my price range. Is the Mil Spec a better pistol than the GI? I might be able to get one if I save up for it.

Yeah the Mil Spec is better.

My personal high end is Kimber and low end is Rock Island Armory Tactical.
For a "first 1911" you cannot go wrong with the RIA Tactical. $500.00 +-.
                          Not American made though.

SA site says mil spec is a step above GI, it has 3 dot combat sights.

from the RIA im looking at, it has novak sights which looks smoother.

                            Budsgunshop.com

                            Mil spec was 575$

while the RIA tactical is 459$

For a pure entry level no bells or whistles but still goes bang when you pull the trigger check out a Rock Island Armory 1911 or a springfield GI if you can find it. Its much more mil spec but you can always get drop in parts as you go to make it how you like.

other than that check out a kimber ($850) custom or a springfield mil spec or loaded model
