New Security six!

Finally got my 6" stainless Security six .357 mag today............after a six week wait! (Consignment gun, holidays, 10 dros and all that garbage!)
After got it home and even given it a closer look at, (after a good clean/lube) I don't think it did anything but set in storage. Can't find a scratch on the wood stocks or metal, bore is perfect, cylinder lockup is like a brand new gun? By the serial number I think it's a late 1982/early1983 gun......159-45XXX.
I got it for $350+dros/tax and because it took so long they shop gave a box Winchester 38sp. ammo.

Question! Did the stainless six 6" made '82-83 come with a small red insert on the front sight stock? Because
mine does, also came with decent (target?) walnut stocks, the type that come up to the trigger guard?

I do remember the Security Six having a red front ramp insert. It was a popular thing to have a red ramp / white outline rear. The stock should be factory as well.

I have the 4" in Stainless. Mine does have the red insert.

Bought it new in 83. Mine came with the Pachmayr combat grip.

SWEET Revolver. It is my most trustworthy gun.

My first revolver was a Security Six I loved it so much I bought one for my sons first revolver. It is brand new in the box. Mine has seen a lot of use.

Security Six was my 2nd Ruger Revolver. My first was a .22LR/.22WMR Single Six. I sold the Security Six to upgrade to the GP100. Luckily, I still have a Speed Six (same platform) to serve as my primary HD weapon.
The more you shoot it, the better you'll like it ;-).

I bought a blued Security Six w/4" bbl in 1974. Second handgun I owned and the first I actually liked to shoot. I still have that gun and, if Ruger ever brings the Security-Six back (or I see a decent used one), I'll buy another one -- or two.

The first gun I ever bought was a Security Six 4 inch stainless. I did put Pachmayr grips on it but it still is one of my favorites to shoot. It accompanied us on a lot of camping trips all over the west. I have a lot of Rugers now because of it. Enjoy it.

I bought a 4" stainless steel Security Six in 1977. It's had a zillion rounds run through it. It's been to Kentucky and back with me. I've carried it while hunting and fishing. I've carried it while driving a tractor, feeding live stock or just beating around the farm. I've carried it on my hip, in the glove box of my truck, on the dash board, on the seat, under the seat, in my jeep, while boating and while dirt biking. It's been my self defense gun, fun gun and all around companion gun. I've had a lot of different guns over the years but my Security Six has always been my favorite. If for some reason i was limited to just one handgun, the Security Six would be my only choice.

Someday i'll pass it down to my grandson.

Had a 4" Stainless that I bought new in 1984 or thereabouts. It definitely had the red insert on the front sight. One of the nicest revolvers I've owned and I'm sorry I sold it.

They are good guns. Had one of the originals, no red sight. It shot just fine but the balance and grip were just too different from my Smitties. Sounds like you got a great deal, enjoy shooting it!
