If I have more than a dozen aggressors coming I will still pack my 5 shot snubbie on my back. I'll have my Robinson Arms M96 fully loaded by my side with about 8 full mags in carrying pouches. NHM91 also on standby with a 75 round drum and shotguns fully loaded ready to rock. I'll still carry my 1911 in 45acp right side hip with about 3 or 4 extra 8 round mags. If I have to draw the snubbie I must be in deep kimchee.

My question was about the type of situations where a person will benefit from have a couple of ultra high cap reloads with them.

I know , I would never carry my G17 or 34 with a 33 rd magazine in it.

Also , at work sometimes the question still comes up, " Single stack 45 vs. a high cap 9mm"

That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. Dosen't show up on your airport X-ray machines, here, and it cost more than you make in a month.

I think a glock 17/34 with a few 33rd mags would make a great bug option for pilots or other hi bail out risk operations within the military. Id rather have the extra weight being used for survival gear in a situation such as that, if it were me.

Yea, it is harder for them to force you to do things when you are armed.

my holster for my glock 17 has 2 mag pouches attached to it - it's a little more bulky but if I really want to carry alot of blammo it's fine.

the extended pistol magazines are a bit of an oxymoron

and ive only found real use playing at the range in real life a pistol is supposed to be compact and you only have it because it is inconvienient to carry a rifle

using one to make a defensive pistol an offensive pistol is using poor judgement and would either be an act of desperation or insanity

i'd rather go into battle with the rustiest egyptian ak than a glock with a 30 rounder

I assume you'd be carrying them in your trunk, wouldn't they be too big for the duty belt? If you have to return to the car to get them, why not retrieve the rifle or shotgun? I'm sure we could all come up with scenarios where the ultra-hi caps would be better than regular mags, but a long gun would be even more useful. Unless they were on you, I can't see them being much use, except to fight your way back to a long gun.

I know that. We were just talking at work about a REALISTIC situation where such a firepower would bring a true advantage. For an LEO or anyone else.

Other than those things, they're great

I'd rather have a number of standard size spares than the G18 extended versions, at least for serious purposes.
There is no increased wear on a pistol with a higher capacity nor contact with the mag that could cause reliability issues. The ONLY thing you said that was accurate was that the mags would be difficult in carrying that size. Personally I have found that the pistol balances better with the standard mags unless the pistol was stocked in a SBR configuration.

How often do you run into an organized group of armed criminals that big (say 5+) in the U.S. out side of movies, and without at least one other person to back you up? (Which is I believe your original question.)

Probably not very likely unless you are going looking into certain places knowing they will be there. If so, take a swat team with you.

And if there are 5 or more armed punks shooting at you, just stay down until THEY run out of ammo! Go wading into a hail of incoming bullets and the size/quantity of mags you got probably isn't going to matter, other than to whoever will inherit them.

If you are in a situation where large groups (10 or more) of thugs are wandering the streets armed, magazine capacity for your pistol is probably moot.
Reminds me of two quotes from Clint Smith:
"Don't forget, incoming fire has the right of way."
"you use a handgun to fight your way to a rifle"
"If the misery of the poor be caused not by the laws of nature,
but by our institutions, great is our sin."

This is exactly what I was thinking, these situations seem to be getting a little TOO hypothetical for me.

10 + bad guys?... That's a hellofa bad day! Odds are they are more armed than any one person with a 9mm and all the big sticks in the world can handle and caliber really doesn't matter at that point. If I knew I were going to be in a fight on the other hand, I would have much more on me than a 9mm or a .45 (but I would have a TON of .45!).

Out of curiosity, since I know there are many 9mm fans, how many people train with big sticks using defensive hollow points? Most 9mm shooters I personally know simply don't own that much defensive 9mm rounds because of cost.
