    hk usp 9 fullsize

How is the hk usp 9mm full size? How does it compare to a sig p226? Where can I find one in southern California? How much do they usually retail for?

A quick Gunbroker check shows them going for $500 to $800 depending on the accessories. The $500 might be a bit on the low side as those are auctions that have reserves. You may have to figure $700-$800 as actual selling prices.

I cannot help you locate one in SoCal, sorry.

Best thing to do would be swing by a local FFL and see for yourself how the guns feel in your hands. If you want to know how they feel shooting, rent them at a range.

I think Socal gun here in San Diego carries them both. Best bet is to call around and find out.

          My impressions

My USP 9 feels lighter in my hand than the P226.

The grip also feels a little more narrow on the USP.

The felt recoil seems less on the Sig than the USP.

The stock trigger is better on the Sig. You can do a cheap spring job on the USP and get the pulls on par. But then, you can do a not so cheap trigger upgrade and get the Sig out ahead again. All in all, the Sig's trigger gets the nod.

Both as relaible a gun as you will find.

A used Sig will probably be less expensive (a little bit) than a comparable H&K, but again probably not a great deal either way.

I think they are both great guns.

No help on the LA gun market.

Great gun, just picked one up this week on consignment from Turner's Norwalk for $650.

Search around the used ones. I've seen USPs go for $550ish. I think USPs finally have come down to an effective and practical price range due to P2000 and P30s taking the limelight.

One thing to note about the USP though.. not all are fans of the recoil spring system. While it does lessen the perceived felt recoil.. it kind of prolongs the recoil. Hard to explain, but for me it took longer to reacquire the target after each shot. Honestly.. it doesn't really affect me as I'd never run it as a race gun and have yet to enter any competitions, but totally practical for home defense.

Personally, I've learned to go with the SigPro2022. I know you didn't ask about the gun, but I was in the same situation as you picking between the 2 guns (P226 and USP). I owned 1 USP and 3 P226s. I purchased a SP2022 from TopGunSupply when they had a sale and it really came down to the fact that this gun performed better (for me) than the P226 and USP at the fraction of the cost. So I no longer own any USP or P226s. If you decide to buy a SP2022 around this parts though.. just be weary that it isn't from part of the botched Turners batch. Its a shame these guns get a bad rep because of that. If you visit Sigforum, theres nothing but praise for it.

                  Racky,

nice shooting. What type if sight ailment is on your HK USP? Combat/cover-up, cenetr-of-mass, or 6 O'clock?

I notice that your gun doesn't have much muzzle flip. Is that because you reload or recoil control? Either way....great shooting.

                    Re: hk usp 9 fullsize

Try to shoot them. I'm more consistently accurate with the USP.

call Josh at Alamo - he will get you onefor the best price.

I like the USP better than the 226 as you can have it cocked and locked.

Might as well give the USP 45 a try, as the recoil reduction system is most beneficial for the larger caliber. It's pretty much wasted on 9mm.

Unless ammo prices are of top concern rather than power.

I own a few varients with the 226. I have the P226, P226 "Blackwater Tactical" and the P226 Equinox. I also have the USP in 9mm and .45ACP.

I carry the USP .45ACP for a living but I will say, I like the P226 series better. More accurate gun, feels great in the hand and just a real jewel of a gun. When comparring the P226 to the USP 9mm alone, the P226 wins for me, every time.
