    Tactical holster set up

What's a good tactical holster set up for tactical training? I have a Glock 21 sf, thanks...

Blade-Tech is top notch, but pricey. Fobus would be my favorite of the affordable range. You want Kydex because it does not stick or snag. You want something that is a straight drop, or at most a slight cant, and you want it sitting right over your hip. You want a 2 mag pouch on the other hip. Also preferrably kydex. You do not want a snap or push button or anything securing it into place. The design of the kydex holster will do that without those things. It will be snugly in place and only the force of you hand pulling it free will get it to come out of the holster. It will be perfectly secure without 'em, they only slow you down. You'll need a nice sturdy belt. For training I use what is called an instructor's belt, aslo known as a riggers belt.

This picture shows a good picture of my tactical/training rig. You can ignore the AR thigh rig and drop pouch. I only use those when I break out the AR. But the rest of the rig applies to handgun training.

    More gear...

Raven concealment system. However, it takes more than 4 months to get one now. Check it out. It's used by those guys at magpul dynamics

+1 on fobus. Good brand for good price. I use their holster and I feel confident in the product.

I like the Serpa. Not a lot of retention but it at least has some so if you're rolling around on the ground in a scuffle, which might happen during training, you have less of a chance of getting up and realizing your firearm fell out during the fistfight and is still on the ground than with a holster that doesn't have any retention. Not sure if they make one for the 21SF but if they do, you can get them pretty cheap.

i use the blackhawk serpa.. it does have moving parts which in theory can jam/fail.. ive never had an issue with this.. however i like that there is something other than a gental "hug" holding it in place such as with the bladetech/fobus.. i have seen people knock/drop their sidearms while on the move (in competition)
Boy the way Glen Miller played, songs that made the hit parade, guys like us we had it made, those were the days, and you know where you were then, girls were girls and men were men, mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again, didn't need no welfare states everybody pulled his weight, gee our old Lasalle ran great, those were the days!

I have a couple SERPA holsters and they are quite nice. I like the positive lock and am aware of the potential for debris to get under the mechanism but I'm not too worried about that. I'm not deploying to the big sandbox anytime soon. I have a Blackhawk thigh holster platform that allows me to use any SERPA holsters so I just need one thigh rig for either of my SERPA holsters/guns. I have my USP SERPA on there now but I could undo some screws and have my 1911 SERPA on there. It's a nice system. They actually make a QD plate for even faster changes.

My USP SERPA is solid but my 1911 SERPA does have some rocking. I contacted Blackhawk and they sent me a replacement plastic spring. That helped but there is still some play. The retention is solid but there is a bit of fore and aft rocking. No big deal at this point.

I intend to try some other brands and actually have a Blade-Tech 5.11 injection molded 1911 holster coming. I have a couple of Fobus holsters as well and they are okay for the money. Definitely a budget minded holster. I generally do not have just one holster for any of my guns. Collecting holsters is worse than collecting guns!

My SERPA for my XD shakes rattles and rolls. Im not a fan of it.

I really like my plain jane Uncle Mikes Kydex, fits well, adjustable, and rides high on my waist.

does your 1911 have an integral rail? my serpa does the same rocking feeling but only with non railed 1911s. my railed kimber doesn't do it.

No rail. It's a Champion size 1911 too. It was fine at first but then developed the rocking. The new spring helped at first but it's rocking again. Maybe they designed the 1911 SERPAs to be able to accommodate rails so our non-railed guns don't fill up the holster.

Another vote for Blade-tech. Also my cousin just received his Raven Concealment gear (ordered it this summer) and says it's fantastic.

One that hasn't been mentioned is the Safariland, particularly the 6004 (I think). Has retention like the Serpa, but no small moving parts that some people complain about. For the record I like the Serpa I have for my P226, but I hear that some trainers don't allow students to use Serpas for a few reasons. Just something to take into account if you plan on taking many courses.
