    Kimber Purchase

Please forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong place.

So I finally buckled down and decided to quit borrowing and renting guns, and bought my own. On November 2nd, I purchased a Kimber Custom 2 TLE/RLII. Got a great price for it and all, but the waiting has been agonizing. I was initially told 4-6 weeks for the gun to get in. As of today, I've been told it will be another 6-8 weeks plus the 10-day DROS period following its arrival at the shop.

My naive question is whether dealers are allowed to start the paperwork with the serial number given the amount of time that I have already waited. Does anyone know how this works?

I believe they have to have the pistol in hand, at least thats what i have been told. If i were you I'd go somewhere else i HATE being told "2 more weeks" over and over. Find it in stock, i would rather drive 100 miles twice than wait that long, that me.

It wouldnt be Diablo Valley? would it?

I'm not going to throw the vendor under the bus on the forums, but they're local to San Diego. I agree, though. If this gun were in stock anywhere else at this point, I'd drive out to get it.

The two hour drive from San Diego may be a bit far for you, but I saw the same model a week or two ago at the Turner's Outdoorsman in Redondo Beach. They're currently having a sale on the TLE/RL II for $1029.98. I picked one up last month, and she's a real honey!

I believe that they technically can start the DROS if they have a S/N but there can be a problem with that actual gun being the one that shows up so that is one reason they want to wait to have the gun in hand, in case there is a switcheroo prior to shipping. Then you've just DROS'd a gun that isn't yours.

He doesn't have to drive all the way to Redondo Beach, there's a Turners near San Diego.

            Turner's - Kearny Mesa
            8199 Clairemont Mesa
            Kearny Mesa, CA 92111
            858-278-8005

They have them in stock at their warehouse. They will start the DROS for you that same day while it's being shipped over.

Thanks Recession! I'm a recent transplant to LA from San Francisco, so I'm still working out the kinks in my SoCal geography :-)

I bought my Kimber at the Turner's in Reseda. Just like Recession said, they started the paperwork the same day, and the gun arrived at the store before the 10-day wait was over.

Sorry about the wait, but great handgun. I have been eyeing that model for a while now.

Can't help you with your question, but I can tell you that you made a good choice. I just purchased a TLE/RL II last month from Cordova Shooting Center in Rancho Cordova for $999

I just put my first 100 rounds through it today with no FTF's and it is very accurate. Once you get it, I'm sure you'll be quite happy with it.
