    Hi Point C9 Range Report

My local gun shop had a Black Friday sale on a C9, so I went for it. While I waited I ordered two 10 rounders from Hi Point. Picked up the Hi Point on Monday, and went shooting last night.

Impressions? Trigger is not bad, just a bit heavy. Sights are good. Original 8 round inserts well and ran well with no issues. The 10 rounders would jam if loaded all the way, but loaded to 8 were fine, and were harder to insert and remove. It shot ok, about what you expect. With 115g WWB and Federal, it hit low about 2 inches.

Overall impression, I like it. Not as nice as my CZ SP01 or my Ruger 22/45, and I don't think I will shoot it as often as those, but I don't see ever selling it.

The below target is from approximately 6 yards, and includes head shots from a borrowed Sig226 .40 with SRT that a fellow shooter let me try out. Nice gun, and nice guy. That helps give you a idea of my abilities, or lack of. All of the other groups are from the C9.

Not bad. What was the sale price? I have thought about getting a Hi-Point many times.

I had a c9, enjoyed shooting. I shot it more then I did my Sig.
Someone made a trade offer I couldn't resist, so I traded it. If I can find another one for $100, I get one again.

C9's are so cheap there is never a reason why anyone can't have one. they work, they are warrentied forever, and they down blow up like a lot of other guns do when overloaded/double charged... what more could you want?

While I agree that Hi-Point firearms are cheaply priced, I don't agree that they are for everyone. Especially those with little gun knowledge as their only form of protection. They are better for those willing to put in a bit of handwork to make them work correctly. Once the correct steps have been taken, its a pretty reliable firearm, and a great trunk gun.

The owners that bash them, well I bet they never even tried to work out it's common problems. It's a $125. gun. What did you expect? A Glock? Do the research, do the work, and it will be a friendly, ugly Betty that cycles every time. If you buy a Hi-Point with the mentality that it will be perfect, you will be disappointed. Then bash away.

I ran 150 rounds through it with the only problem being the 10 round mags. I adjusted the feed lips but it did not improve. What other issues need to be corrected to make it reliable?

This is not my hd gun, my CZ with night sights is.

i have not owned or shot one.

that being said... i have noticed the loyalty many owners have for their HiPoint. i have visited one of the HiPoint forums and the loyalty was fierce!

I expect any new firearm to function properly. Its rididulous to spend any money on a product, least of all a firearm, that doesn't function like its supposed to.

I've got a C9. I'm up to 2k rounds through it. It has never been torn down. I punch the barrel and clean what I can get to.

The last 1000 have been cheap blazer ammo, not even brass. It fired all 1k of it without a malfunction. As long as I shoot from a solid stance it is reliable. but start getting in awkward stances where it doesn't have a solid recoil platform to push against and I can make it jam.

IMO cheap plinker to throw some 9mm downrange but I would not want to use it in a defensive scenario where I can't count on a standard position and grip etc. to shoot from.

As for the borrowed sig shooting better. Well the sig cost probably what 3x or more what the hi-point did? I'm pretty sure if I took my 25k coupe up against 75k cars it would get ate alive but I can still enjoy driving it.

I don't know which version of the 226 that it was, but came standard with the SRT, so I am guessing it cost close to a grand, if not more. It is a nice firearm, and I certainly would not mind owning one. None of my shooting was necessarily for accuracy. It was all standing with no support, and I was not spending more than 1-3 seconds between shots. I was just having fun. Next time I will shoot at bullseye targets and see how well I can do.

The Hi-Point did not give me any issues as it came from the factory. Only when paired with a 10 round mag I purchased separately did it give me problems, and only then when I loaded a full 10 rounds. Supposedly this can be fixed with adjusting the lips and with more use of the mag. I do like the longer grip of the 10 rounders, but the 8 rounder seems to be of better quality.

One post stated that any gun should not give any problems, no matter the costs. There have been many posts about guns costing quite a bit more having problems right out of the box, or requiring a certain amount of rounds to be broken in and realiable.

I paid $159, which is not really a sale price, but this shop usually does not carry them and brought them in to sell for Black Friday. I ended up buying a RIA Tactical .45 for a great price as well for my first 1911. Once I was told the price, I had to go for it. Unfortunately they had already started the dros on the C9, so now I am waiting my 30+10 for it. Range report will be coming.

I don't know about the Hi-Point but the Sig will shoot one whole at that distance easily shooting 1 shot per second.

I purchased two 10 rounders, loaded them full and tried to hand cycle them untill empty. No go but the OEM 8 rounder has been reliable.
I then took a caliper and measured the OEM 8 round mag lips and the new ones and found the new ones to be off. Made adjustments and they now all run perfect with any and all ammo. I would have no second thoughts about grabbing my C9 in a life or death scenario.
Aaaaaaand I never heard of Hi point leg.

I have no doubt of that, but this was the first time shooting the Sig(not my gun), and it's a 40, which I have only shot a couple of times, and I do not pretend to be a expert marksman. Thanks for pointing that out though.
