    SIG 1911? good value

Hi, I went to the show last weekend and I held a sig 1911. I know they are known to make good guns but how are their 1911? they run around 800 and up for he basic one. any experience on this 1911? GSR, XO, and I think the highest end is not ca approved. thanks

I have a 1st generation Sig GSR- the frame on mine cracked and had to be replaced by Sig Sauer. My railed GSR is a great shooter and I will probably never replace it...but the factory trigger sucks. Of note, these 1st generation guns had Caspian made frames (no offense intended to Caspian). The newer model frame are now made in house by Sig.

I would spend my $800 towards a different brand of 1911. A used Dan Wesson or new Springfield armory would be a better choice. I would even look at the S&W 1911's.

Sig Sauer quality control has been going down over the last several years.

No personal experience of my own, but a USMC friend of mine has a GSR and has had several issues with it.

Good luck trying to find a used Dan Wesson for around $800. Sig 1911's are a great value.

I have two Sig 1911's and love them both. I have not had any problems. One is an earlier model and the other was produced in 2010.

Dunno exactly when, but at some point some of these GSR's were built using good components like Grieder triggers, Caspian frames, etc. I read about these things having a lotta probs and not so good fit/finish when i was lookin to buy one.

The quality of the in-house frames is more consistent, the Caspian ones were more hit or miss

I have a GSR TTT and I have no complaints. It has adjustable combat night sights, machined front strap checkering, two tone with slide and frame being stainless but the slide is blackened. Trigger wasn't the best, but a bit of tweaking made it good enough for a defensive handgun. Shoot accurately and has been very reliable with all the factory loads I've shot through it including Win bonded JHPs, Remington JHPs and all ball ammo. Here's my 25 yard offhand group - all 8 rounds.

I own 11 1911s, and the Sig XO is absolutely my favorite.

No troubles, ever, in umpteen thousands of rounds; never had a fail-to-feed, or fail-to-fire. It would absolutely be the first one I grabbed. Several of my friends have offered to buy mine, and failing that, bought their own. Never heard a complaint from them, either.

Best thing you can buy for $800.00., including insurance, gold, and alcohol.

                        Cheers,

I've got a GSR revolution with a rail. Most reliable 1911 of the several I own. No other 1911 style .45 offers the same options, or level of fit and finish in that price range.

$900 new can get you night sights, a checkered front strap, a rail, very nice fit/finish, and stellar reliability.

I have XO that I purchased from Buds for $690. Great price and it has been a great gun.

The only thing you have to be careful with is the year. Stick to a newer model. I have a Sig GSR that I love, shoots very well. The fit and finish is great. I also have a Kimber compact that I have had for over 12 years, and just picked up a Springfield Loaded a few weeks ago. My Sig and Kimber are very smooth and tight. The Springfield is gritty feeling and not fitted very well. I thought a good cleaning and lube would do the trick, but helped very little. I would buy the Sig again any day.
