It just has to be already in the state. It doesn't have to be previously "registered" here. There are probably over a million (just an off the top of my head guess) legal but, not registered, off roster, handguns in this state.

You would need to call the shop for details, but yes we will transfer that.

I've been curious about this since I heard about the single shot exemption, does the single shot modification you do void the gun's warranty (if it has one)? Can a person with little or no experience with guns (read: me) convert it back to semi-auto? And just out of curiosity, is it possible to see a picture of what these things look like in single shot mode?

A single shot conversion can be as simple as installing a sled (zero round mag) in the mag well and somehow fixing it so that the mag release won't work. On a gun like a 1911, this can be accomplished by using a long grip screw that will go into the mag. Then, if the buyer wants to make it back into a semi auto, all one would have to do is remove the screw, remove the sled and install the oem grip screw. For many, if not most guns, there would be no permanent mods so, there is no way that it should affect any warantee.

This makes me very happy, though I suspect it may also make me very poor.

Pretty much nailed it, the 1911's are easier then that though. Also single shots need to have a barrel length of 6" min.
