    A little confused?

I was at a gun show this past weekend and I seen a pair of guns I really liked. They were Smith and Wessons model 1006 and 1066 in 10 mm, I didnt get to buy either of them they were over priced. So I decided to search the web to find a better deal, now I seen one I liked for an ok price but as i go to see if its on the list I dont see either of them on there so im guessing they are not legal here in CA. Is it only legal to sell that model within the state if its already registered here. Or am not looking correctly and they are legal for CA? any help will be much appreciated thanks

An off list handgun can only be bought via private party transfer in the state of CA. Exceptions: Gift from parents from out of state, LEO purchase, brought in by a new resident - falls under PPT, single shot conversion. Maybe someone else can add to the list.

You are correct in that there are guns you can buy used in California that you cannot buy new.

Regarding the specific models in question, if you didn't see them on the list then they probably aren't on the list.

Don't think that because these guns are not on the least means they are illegal. They are not. As these guys have said, you just can't walk into a gun store and buy them NIB.

They are not on the list but you can buy PPT. It took me 2 years to find one. NIB I paid $900.00 and would have paid more. Not that the gun is worth more it is just options for 10mm firearms here in California are limited.

No, you can get it using an exemption for transfer. We specialize in that type of thing at Valkyrie.

You want an off roster NIB gun. That gun is able to be transferrred to you using the single shot exemption. It has never been sold and the conversion was performed by an 07 FFL. That is a NIB handgun, I know this to be 100% fact and legal.

If the owner chooses to convert that gun into a semi auto configuration that is his/her choice and is legal.

I'm not saying it's illegal, and I know about the exemption. I'm just saying that a gun that has been modified from it's original configuration, whether by an FFL or by bubba, is not NIB as far as I'm concerned. A difference of opinion...

OK a difference of opinion but as long as that gun hasn't been transferred it's considered NIB. When that has been sold and a 4473 is done, now it's a used gun and is no longer NIB. You can use the exemption or deal with the roster.

Also we don't make people pay a premium for off list guns, unlike many out there we are shooters and we care about our customers. Don't ask me, ask our customers.

That's good. Inflated prices are always what stopped me from getting an off roster gun. Even if I could afford it, I could never bring myself to buy a bun for 200 or 300 dollars more than someone across state lines could get it for.
