Have you checked Amazon.com? Also, what is the primary purpose? Is the safe going to used primarily for storage? Keep the kids away? Security for when you are not home? So you don't have to purchase a trigger lock?

If it's for storage or security I don't see any reason why you can't purchase a small safe that is not specifically designed for firearms. Sentry makes quite a few safes that are small and affordable. They may not be specifically listed for "firearms" (for liability, I'm sure), but they would do the serve the same function as a safe that is a "firearm safe" in writing.

...I found the Homak line of electronic access boxes. They seem pretty good and the prices are much less than Gunvault. ...Homaks are a bit small so you don't get full clearance relative the internal space. It seems you kind of have to angle the gun in and out. In any event, I think they're worth a look.

Yes, it is small. It barely fits my ruger speed Six with 2 3/4" barrel. The gun sits in the safe with muzzle pointed downward. I have never had a problem opening the safe. I open it nightly and close it every morning. If I am off work, I may open and close several times in 1 day.
I used 1/4" x 1" Carriage bolts to mount to the inside of my nightstand drawer. Used regular nuts and acorn nuts on the inside. If you can get 3/4" long bolts, you can get away with only acorn nuts. The heads and fender washers are on the outside. It feels like a solid install. The safe would take some tools to get it open. If thief wants to take, he will either cut it out of drawer or smash the drawer or take the whole thing with him. Either way, I have prevented him from having quick access to my gun.
The remainder of my guns stay in a bigger safe bolted to the floor.

Small one and two handgun safes are fine to keep children away from your loaded guns, but not great to prevent theft. Even bolted down, they are easy for the bad guy to steal the whole safe, take home and open while he watches television in his living room with his feet up enjoying a cold beer.

What about just something like this. Its a bit bigger than the gun specific designs out there and seems to be just as if not more solid. I gave my dad a Sentry brand fireproof lock box the other day to keep his pistol and expensive stuff that could burn in a fire more as a fire safe than anything but it was REALLY solid for the money. They have big hole areas that you can lag bolt them down and work quite well. I would look into costco.com and other places at Sentry brand stuff because its fireproof or "resistant" many times and because it doesn't have the gun specific relation they tend to be quite a bit cheaper. People are willing to spend way more often times for less of a product just because they think its a gun specific product instead of opening up their options.
