    Amnesty

Anyone know when the next gun amnesty is? Reason I ask is I have a Jennings 22. The reliability is very questionable. I wouldn't give it away much less sell it and someone trust their life to it. It needs to be destroyed. Also I need to turn in a police baton I took with me to Middle East, I have no need for, and it is illegal to own if not LEO. When I bought it I had military ID with orders.

If any Officers can instruct my on the right way to do this it is very much appreciated.

I had a baton in the back of my truck in the extra cab, got pulled over, and all they did was see it through the window and had me in cuffs and sitting on the curb, faster than I could get them to look in my gym bag and pull out my badge....that was years ago, but still here is CA law: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/dwcl/12020.php. The language is the odd part, since the law does not use the term "nightstick" or "police baton"..Likely a case of, A rose by any other name.

      The Man

Yea while it doesn't say in exact words baton I don't feel like taking on the Man. As for the Jennings it's a gamble. Sometimes it works good with CCIs sometimes it doesn't. It will only cycle with CCI minimag. Fired it on Sat. Out of the 20 rounds only one FTE on the last round.

everytime you turn in a firearm to a buyback someone new votes that guns are evil

post it in the for sale forum.. i as well as many others would be more than happy to buy/trade/barter with you than have you turn it in

So why do you need amnesty? The baton was legal when you purchased it and you make no mention of the Jennings being unlawfully obtained. Why not simply take them to a police station and turn them in or even a gun shop. Plenty of folks on here would take an unreliable pistol to play with plenty of others that can legally own a baton.

Sell the Jennings -- somebody may need the parts.

California law often befuddles me -- why can't you just destroy the baton or throw it away?
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

                Option

I honestly thought of going to the sheriff's office and turning in the baton. But I could see someone saying this is a felony your under arrest. As for the J-22 it's a paperweight. The gun store told me he would cut it up and let me keep the plate for the serial number. In case the feds came looking for it I can prove I destroyed it. I told him I didn't want no stinking plate. If I could get movie tickets from a buy back program that's more than it's worth.

Anyone live in Madera or Fresno LE?

Worse case scenario I'll take the grinder and cutting wheel to the baton. It's one of the collapsible ones where you flick your wrist and it extends. They also have serial numbers on it. So I don't believe you can just give it away.

California tends to treat any impact weapon as a felony to possess. I still have a permit from CA/BSIS for baton. I had 2 PR-24 batons I no longer wanted. I just cut them through in 2 places and tossed them in the regular trash.

I can head down to L.A.'s china town and buy a collapsable baton for 10$ on the curb.

Also: If you just wanted to drop it at the police station, you're covered by statute (unles you're a prohibited person for other disqualifying reasons):

12020. (a) Any person in this state who does any of the following is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or in the state prison: [here's is the list of all the illegal fun stuff]
                      ...snip...
                      (b) Subdivision (a) does not apply to any of the following:
                      ...snip...
                      (16) Any instrument, ammunition, weapon, or device listed in subdivision (a) that is not a firearm that is found and possessed by a person who meets all of the following:
                      (A) The person is not prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition pursuant to Section 12021 or 12021.1 or paragraph (1) of subdivision (b) of Section 12316 of this code or Section 8100 or 8103 of the Welfare and Institutions Code.
                      (B) The person possessed the instrument, ammunition, weapon, or device no longer than was necessary to deliver or transport the same to a law enforcement agency for that agency's disposition according to law.
                      (C) If the person is transporting the listed item, he or she is transporting the listed item to a law enforcement agency for disposition according to law.
They can't say "tag you're it" when you drop off the baton, unless you're already a bad guy.

I personally think that it shouldn't be a crime, but it is what it is.

As far as the gun goes... see if someone wants it in the for-sale section
Ad: It's a Jennings 22, and it's a POS, doesn't work, dont' like it, don't want it. make me an offer. (offers ensue)

It's the principle of the whole gun buyback. Unless we're exploiting it with a bunch of cheaply produced AK flats, giving them a gun is giving them a win.

The jennings can probably be fixed, usually polishing them, tweaking the angle of the feed ramps and adjusting the springs can get them to run decently.

It can also help if you modify the striker assembly with a hardened steel firing pin instead of the stock one.

I've fixed a number of them over the years.

Not a great gun by any stretch of the imagination, but for the 15-35$ they can be had for, its a fun little thing to tinker on.

Sell it cheap to someone as a project gun. If I had any money I'd make an offer. I love to tinker with things and make them work.

If all you want is movie tickets for the jennings, then throw it up for $30 and dros in the private sellers forum. I promise you, SOMEONE WILL BUY IT.

Baton's may have serial numbers, but they are not tracked. You can go through it in the trash and have no worries. Although LE isn't the only one allowed to have them, security guards with proper permits can as well.
