I sold two in 95%+ condition this year for $1500 apiece. I could have gotten more. They are scarce as hell, in 98%+ condition at least, which is not the actual condition you see advertised here.

In 1982, my brother was closing down his coin/gun shop in Redding and he sold me a new nickel plated 4" barrel Python for $300. It's fired exactly 28 rounds. I guess it would qualify as a 98%+ gun.

Great deal Was your brothers store in the downtown mall? I seem to remember one there back then. btw, 28 rounds fired is a peculiar number of rounds fired for a revolver

No, it was located at a small strip mall on Bechelli Lane. I've still got the two original boxes of ammo I purchased for it, only 28 missing. I can't explain why it wasn't 24 or 30.

Someone just sold a 1965 6inch blue for around $1300 it was in perfect condition no cylinder turn ring, grips were flawless. Thats a steal.

Common misconception is these late model Python elites selling beyond $2000. They are not the best made pythons but more of a late marketing scheme by colt. You want to stick to models from the 60's through to the early 80's. Do your history on colt and colt pythons to get an idea of what is best.
Look out for pre colt strike models when the real masters at colt built them.

If your only going to have one Python then i would go with a six, 3 ribs along the barrel is pure perfection in design. Having the box and paper work raises the stakes on price by many $$$

But dont pass up a mint 2.5 they seem more difficult to find in mint condition.

                  Mine were not 98%.

Why? Cuz I wanted the money sooner than later.

Oh, almost forgot about this ''one that got away''. The guy behind me was a cop, before he was murdered. I nearly had all the paperwork done to get it home, when command changed policy on firearm trophies. ALL the markings are in Arabic.

The Colt Python is probably the most beautiful revolver I've seen especially in Royal Blue, but also in nickel or stainless.
