    Close, scary call!!!!!

Yesterday i was instructing my wife how to use a Bersa thunder 380. Outside and in a safe direction in the country, I installed the the mag, pulled the slide to load one in the chamber, let go of the slide and BOOM!! My finger was not on the trigger!

Has anyone had a problem like this with this pistol? After the mishap i tried to re create this unloaded. What i saw was that every once in a while after I pulled the slide back the hammer would follow the slide. SCARY!! This is like the slam fire they talk about with the M1A rifle.

Yeaahh.... You should contact Bersa about that ASAP. Don't shoot the gun anymore until it's fixed.

Yup that happened to me using a Beretta Neos. Of course, it's a rimfire.

Good thing you were exercising good safety. Definitely don't shoot it until the problem is fixed.

I think i discovered what led to this problem... in the first sentence of your post, I saw that you wrote "....use a Bersa Thunder 380."

Get a hold of the Bersa customer service and get it taken care of. About a year or two ago the Walther PPK's have a similar issue of when the safety was on and you closed the slide the round could go off. It was an easy fix and folks had their guns back to them in a couple weeks.

actually,im having a simular problem too! my nightstand gun (SA 1911) is kinda doing the same thing. Once a while ill put it out and rack a round into the chamber just to make sure its operting smooth. but this time I put some snap caps in, lock the slide back and droped the slide with the slide release, the snap cap chambered, slide all the way forward, but the hammer went forward too, not all the way, just half calk. so, i dunno whuts going on with it????? its got about 5k rounds down the pipe. ny one have any ideas????

✟ In the beginning was the 1911, and the 1911 was THE pistol, and it was good. And behold the Lord said, "Thou shalt not muck with my disciple John's design for it is good and it workith. For John made the 1911, and lo all of his weapons, from the designs which I, the Lord, gave him upon the mountain."✟

Have you ever messed with the trigger or sear? That is what the half cock "safety" is there for; to catch the hammer if the sear slips and lets the hammer go without the trigger being pulled.

This is a SERIOUS problem with a 1911 and you need to have it looked at. I would say you should stop using it as your nightstand gun immediately.

Call or email springfield right away......that is one of those problems you should not delay having fixed, and having fixed by someone that knows EXACTLY what they are doing.

Put together is right. Sounds like you're getting hammer follow, which has to do with sear engagement. When it gets bad enough, I believe it can cause the weapon to go full auto - not fun when it's unexpected, not to mention dangerous.

It doesn't sound like a lot of rounds, but if the trigger pull was messed with, that and the round count could be the culprit. I'd say call Springer or take to a very good smith.

Definitely take it out of the nightstand and use something else.

                        Good luck.

I would call the manufacturer ASAP. That is why I always keep my guns pointed down range when loading them.

I'd sue them and then re-invest the money into more Bersa's!

It's really a win-win if you think about it.
