Yes.
Per my understanding it is legal to re-build a pre-ban Hi-cap magazine that you own. It is even legal to replace all the parts of it if they have been damaged.
It is Illegal to manufacture a new hi-cap magazine from a re-build kit.
So long as the number of pre-ban magazines (regardless of how many parts have been replaced to keep them functioning) in your possession remains the same I believe you're GTG.Last edited by nicoroshi; 11-11-2010, 5:47 PM. -
Yes, the rebuild kit contains all the parts you need to fix your magazine.Comment

Rebuild kits are complete magazines which have simply been disassembled. What do you mean my birth certificate expired?Comment

Burden of proof is on those that may accuse you.
In other words they need to prove that it's NOT a re-built pre-ban (owned) magazine.Comment

You don't have to prove anything to themOriginally posted by driderIf i were ever to be checked by an LE how do I prove to them that I bought it before the 2000 ban? When looking at my preban mag there is no marks to tell its an old pre ban mag, please be patient with me. I want to fix my magazine, loading ten at a time is a pain.(\__/)

And when we turn on nat geo we see the thugs and gangsters with their 33rnd mags in their Glocks. But hey it must be pre ban and legally owned? What do you mean my birth certificate expired?Comment

No worries.
And no one will ever ask you the question. My rebuilds of course include the spring; follower and body. The problem with GLOCK bodies is eventually after you take them apart enough to clean them; those little plastic tabs the hold the floorplate on get worn down. The body has to be replaced. Simple and perfectly legal. I don't give a RATS ARSS about it either.Originally posted by driderIf i were ever to be checked by an LE how do I prove to them that I bought it before the 2000 ban? Never be defensive about the legal magazines you bought and paid for. Or your 2nd amendment rights. That's my policy.May the Bridges I burn light the way.

You can find rebuilds cheaper than that. That company charges too much in shipping fees too.Hi all, this past range trip my worst nightmare happened my pre ban magazine fell out of my utility vehicle and it got ran over by either me or someone else and it cracked the magazine (must of been a truck). I found online a rebuild kit,
http://www.calegalmags.com/gl179mm17rek.html can someone please tell me how does this work? Does it have all the parts i need to re build a new functional magazine? In the side note, please carry your mags in a button style mag holder i was using those tension tight ones. So again, do these rebuild kits come with all the parts I need to rebuild my pre ban high cap mag?

Interestingly, a couple of years ago, I contacted Mec-Gar to replace a standard capacity magazine body that was damaged. They flat out told me that they would not ship me a body (to CA) without my sending them the damaged one first.
I had tossed the old body (caught in a truck tailgate) because it was useless. So I was out of luck. Pissed me off, I must sayComment
