Not the best, but definitely one of the most fun .357 revolvers in my collection. It is almost so ridiculous that makes me smile.

The S&W Performance Center 327 TRR8, or my wife called it the RoboCop revolver.

It was supposed to be the answer from S&W to the SWAT team shield guy, yet I don't know if it was actually deployed in the real world. Here is a good article about the 327 TRR8:

I am waiting on a 627-5 PC right now. Those wood grips that come with it look spectacular, too.

I think you'll have a tough time trying to find one to try out anywhere, they aren't that common of a gun. I KNOW you won't see the PC version in any rental bins. I'm swamped the next couple of weeks and in Orange County or I'd let you try my regular production version.

At that price though, for a gun I never see in stock anywhere, you really can't lose by just going for it.

99 out of 100 says you'll love it and want to keep it forever. Use a credit card. If you get the gun, and that 1% chance happens, you'll have it sold before the bill even comes. If you really love it you'll be thrilled you found it somewhere in stock at a good price.

If you have the money, any S&W would be a good choice. I like the looks of the ones with the full underbarrel shroud like the 686 and 586 models. If you will be carrying it around, you might want the slightly lighter model without the full length under barrel shroud. I don't think there is a difference in accuracy between them.

If you don't have a lot of money, you can get a Taurus.

I don't think Colt still makes a 357, unless they have one in a SSA model.

Rossi also makes one, but I don't know if it is on the california roster.

Both the S&W 686 and Ruger GP100 are excellent firearms. You won't go wrong with either.

Here's another: The GP100's predecessor, the Security-Six. This was Ruger's answer to the S&W Model 19, but built "Ruger strong". I have one of these. It's got great balance, even better than the GP100, at least for me. They can be found inexpensively on the used market.

Another good choice would be a Taurus Model 65 or 66. A very good friend has a Model 65, and she absolutely loves it. Shoots right to point-of-aim and gives small groups. Fits her hand well, too.

Basically, any .357 Magnum revolver will happily shoot any .38 Special round. My friend and I do this all the time. We have put many, many thousands of .38 Special handloads through our guns. You'll hear about the "carbon ring" in the chambers. Don't worry about it. A little Hoppe's #9 and a cleaning brush, and those rings are gone post-haste. Just clean your gun like you should be doing anyway, and you'll be fine. :-)

I have also had one for many years. Great firearm.

You will be happy with either.

I'd agree, although most people would balk at the rather artificial price run ups due to it no longer being in production.

That and the proper Python has the 6 inch barrel.

I have to agree 100%. I carried one for about six years before our department went autos. Still one of the best.

The Ruger security six( aka the club) and the S&W 28/27s get my vote.

I have a prelock 686 that I bought for a good price. I really like this firearm. The trigger is really nice. Smooth action, more accurate than I am. I still want a gp100 though, I really like those as well. I am sure I will own both. Either one of these would be a good choice IMHO.

Stupid people don't know they are stupid. Because they are stupid. They will follow evil geniuses and do their bidding, because they are stupid.

Really super stupid people look up to, and follow stupid people like they were geniuses, because to them, they are. Unfortunately the reality of it is, that doesn't make stupid people any smarter.

That right there is the root cause to most problems in the world.

                              for your consideration:

                              Chiappa Rhino

Personally I like the 2" version.
