Why not? I keep a loaded 75 round AK drum around just because, it's big enough that I'll be able to fing it. I also try to keep a 30 round AR mag or two handy. I just don't normally keep the 1919 out so my 250 round belts are hiding in the garage.

you only have to lock it up when children could potentially gain access to it and use it, or when you're outside your home without a CCW and you're not UOCing or actually using it.

I have 5 loaded mags....no time to load them in a HD situation...

I'd add that when your children are old enough, teach them safe handling and take them to the range.

When I was growing up my father owned a few firearms. None were ever kept locked. I'm not sure if it was the "time" or whether he never just got around to getting a safe.

We kids always knew that the guns were there and where they were. We knew better than to mess around with them unless he was present. I wouldn't advocate leaving your firearms out, but if something ever happens having your kids aware of how to safely handle them can prevent any issues.

why not? standard cap pistol mags are perfectly legal, provided you owned them prior to the ban. as for standard cap rifle mags, well...when the zombies/end of the world comes, will you really care about the law?

CA Law does not say this. Manufacturer, Display for Sale, import, etc is what is illegal for handgun mags in CA. If one is in possession of a high capacity magazine for a handgun in CA it is not illegal.

Why do people keep saying this? Not only is this myth busted all over calguns but in this very thread, and people still think its illegal We really need some of the old schoolers back so they can put the beat down

I recently found a polymer magazine for my Grendel which was left loaded for 15 years. No probs, still a pain to load and operates fine.

Your will notice a lot of opinions about letting the spring rest, wearing it out or not wearing it out by leaving it loaded. From what I can determine, the springs don't wear perceptibly by leaving the magazine loaded. What DOES happen, its that dirt gets into the mag and causes cycling problems. So if you CC it certainly is wise to unload the mag and blow out any debis on a regular basis. Don't worry about this "wearing out your springs" they are made to be used. I have put thousands of rounds through the two mags that came with my G19, they still work fine.

Yes, I keep at least 3 loaded mags for every gun I own.

If you need to get your weapon in a hurry, you won't have much tome to load your mags.

+1. My home defense gun has two additional loaded mags. Same thing with my CCW gun. That is why I always recommend people buy at least 6 magazines for every gun you own. 3 for range use and 3 for home defense/ccw

From what I understand, the worst possible damage that can occur from leaving a magazine loaded for extended periods is deformation of the feed lips from constant contact with the top round under spring tension, as well as potential deformation of said round. I keep my HD guns (all of them) loaded all the time. As long as you periodically rotate the rounds around in the magazine you should have no problems. And the only thing I know of that will loosen up a magazine is to shoot the hell out of it.

My Dad gave me two Colt mags that have been loaded for 20 years with 230 grain Ball .45ACP, they functioned like they were new mags. I have left my Wilson 47D mags loaded for well over a year and they worked also.
