    Hello..need some advice

Hows it going everyone..im new here

I was looking for a decent pistol for a decent price and came across the smith and wesson sigma40 for $369 @ ammo bros

I took the HSC and got a 30/30..it was all common sense..

but now..I think my best bet is to go with a XD40

I stay in the L.A area which has like 3 shops in the whole county

but im close enough to Orange county to travel

whats a decent price for a XD40?? and who has the best prices in so.cal??

    Welcome to the forum.
An XD40 is a much better choice than the S&W IMO. Expect to pay $450 - $550.

I'm not a fan of the 40 caliber, I prefer 9mm or 45 myself, but the 40 is a solid round.

    Good luck.

agreed. But I would go with a Glock 17 or 19 over a XD40....and I know this is going to turn into a fight...lol

              Get a Glock

              Either a Glock 19 in 9mm or a Glock 23 in .40

              Both are the same size.

The .40 S&W has a different recoil than 9mm or .45. Some shooters think it is 'sharper'.
If this is your first handgun, I would say go with a 9mm and keep it loaded with a good HD round. 9mm ballistics have greatly improved over the years. It is also much easier to learn on a 9mm and ammo is cheaper.
Yes, the .40S&W is a superior caliber. This makes no difference if you do not hit your target.
Now find an indoor range that rents guns and try a bunch of them. If you are simply looking for a low price, Ruger Semi-Autos are also a very good value.
                Good luck.

unfortunately..I have to take the economical route.

                  I do like sigs..

I've rented a few and found sigs to be the best

I have not shot a xd though

I find Sigs to be highly overrated.

If money is at all a concern and practicing will depend on it, then I'd suggest you give a 9mm more consideration. I don't buy factory ammo, but I think 40 costs a lot more than 9mm. Modern self defense 9mm loads are very effective. I'd much rather have a 9mm than a 40 in a real gun fight.

The nice people at Parallax Tactical (in San Diego) are showing both XD in 9 and 40 (the 4" Service) at $459.95 (before tax and dros). Out of your neighborhood, but maybe you might like a nice drive for sightseeing?

                        On this page at http://www.parallaxtactical.com/stor...7/pistols-170/

                        They have Glocks too.

Everyone is different. We shot the 17, the 19, the XD40, the XD9. I like the XD series better, but I kinda think it's from shooting 1911's for dozens of years and having more similar grip feel? I dunno. And I agree when people say BLAH about the XD trigger, but that can be modded.

ALL shoot really well and seem really nice.

We ended up with a 9, cuz we wanted cheaper ammo then all our 45's eat.

OP, as is often posted on these kind of threads, see if you can go rent some pistols at your local range(s) and try before you buy.

Have FUN, be safe and train with whatever you choose.

That's all good.. I'm not sitting on stacks of dead presidents either so looking for a economical caliber to shoot is respected.. like most say go with 9mm you will get more bang for your buck (pun intended) and that's what its about..

I'm a big sig and XD fan... not really into glocks but I don't doubt that they are very good guns with a low cost and lots of after market mods so don't count out the glocks.. as far as price a XD9 service is fairly priced and a nice gun to shoot..

If you like sigs but don't like the price, try renting FNH's FNP9. Really similar and definitely

underrated. They can be had in the 400 to 500 range. They also come in 40, not sure

about 45. I would still reccomend a glock, sigmas are ok, but in this case, I'd wait and

get a glock or even an XD if I were you. But definitely try before you buy.
