I think someday you should have a 1911... Not today...
For your choice because you are familure with them... and need
to add a 21sf to your stable first..
Then get a 1911 next year!
Get this one first...

Make it a Glock 30.
Get the 1911 next year. (after the roster is done you will have plenty of choices and I suspect prices will be lower). If you need to shoot a metal 1911 just RENT one occasionally.
The Glock 30 will accept the Glock 21 magazines. It runs well. Very accurate.
(I also like the G21 as well. Have two of them. I have big hands so the normal grip works well for me)
Get a Glock 30SF. JMO.
Pimp it out.

Get the Glock. "Different" can get you killed in a self defense situation. No I'm not joking. I sound like a broken record with this but a 1911 is not a good self defense platform for the majority of gun owners. Why? Because you must practice practice practice drawing and flipping the safety off until you're blue in the face. Then you have to do the same thing engaging the safety after you shoot. Why? Let's say you're in a shooting. You're probably going to be completely shaken with a hair trigger in your hand that you forgot to make safe after you shot the bad guy. The Glock takes a deliberate pull from the first to second to last shot. There's no special training involved and is psychologically a perfect combat platform for the majority of gun owners. Oh, and the Glock will work no matter what. If you're wanting a 1911 simply as a range gun, yeah, they're fun. But as your (I'm assuming by what you wrote) 2nd gun, then this will also be a home defense weapon by default.Comment

Being a Glock only owner besides my Ruger SP101, I have a hard time manipulating a 1911. Not so much that I can't shoot one but I'm so "muscle memory" in tune with the Glock that I'm afraid of an ND with a 1911. Don't get me wrong, the 1911 is an excellent piece of machinery but I don't train with it on a regular basis. Along the lines of what CINESKI says I find that I too ALMOST forget about the 1911 safety and have to triple check when I unload a 1911 since its a single action that it is truly unloaded.
I've written Glock every year since the inception of the Glock 36 asking them to consider producing a Single Stack .45. I was hoping that the "37" would have been that pistol but alas came the 45 GAP. Still writing and hoping. Good Luck on your search.Comment
